1) how is this on an 07 plate?
Are you being serious? It happens to have a zero and a seven in the plate, but the H at the start of the plate is all-telling - registered between August 1990 and July 1991.And it could pass for HI 07 JPM to be fair..

Searching late 80s early 90s Audis on eBay returned this blue one:

That’s a beauty (if it’s possible to ever describe any 309 as a beauty which is a bit of a stretch!).https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-309-Gti-showroo...Z0AAOSw3fZcUgpe:rk:11f:0
I had a couple of these in the early 90’s and at the time thought the were fantastic to drive, and they were cheap as people always preferred the looks of the 205 1.9 Gti.
Now that prices are going up hard to see the appeal as a 306 Gti (or even a 306 2.0 xsi) does everything better and looks nicer so why would anyone pay big money for one of these?
I'm Peter from Barons Auctions, we're selling the car.
1:- I didn't shut the boot lid properly before I took the Photos.
2:- I've had a good look for damage, and as far as I can see there has been no repairs or paintwork done.
3:- The car has never had a service, the oil is still the Peugeot supplied oil, and the air in the tyres is probably original too!
4:-There are a couple of paint chips in the rear spoiler, and a couple of odd marks in the paint at the top of one of the rear doors.
5:- The car had an MoT after 3 years, and two over the last couple of years.
6:- The vendor went to buy a VW Gti, but the VW sales people were rude and not very helpful,so he went to Charters in Aldershot and bought the Peugeot instead. He worked abroad full-time in a high powered job, and when he came home, (infrequently), his company supplied him with a company car. Therefore the Peugeot was never used, and sat in the garage.
7:- He has tried to sell the car in the past, but he and his family's experience, trying to sell the car were not good. As has been previously said, he is not a well man, and the guide price is set where it is, by him, because he wants it to sell.
8:- The car is in outstanding condition, as you would expect. It's absolutely original, except for the petrol and the battery, and is to use that much abused phrase, a "time warp machine".

There was a thread on PH about this car before... It has now been removed. It IS believed this car received rear suspension damage soon after being bought.
I too remember the thread as I have a soft spot for 309s. The OP was selling on behalf of the owner. The thread stated that the car has been damaged and repaired. It wasn't significant damage but the car is not 100% original.Presumably this is related:
"4:-There are ... a couple of odd marks in the paint at the top of one of the rear doors."

Is it correct that the auctioneer can bid the price up himself against genuine buyers up to the auction reserve price? So if one placed a commission bid above the reserve then the price is guarenteed to be at least the reserve?1:- I didn't shut the boot lid properly before I took the Photos.

In the case of jewellery auctions this is certainly true. It's known as taking a bid 'from the wall'. 2Btoo said:
