It'll be on one of those rotatey thingysSo you don't have to look at all the bad angles at the same time - it really is a bit of a dog's breakfast.
When I first saw the last Supra (on the cover of Autocar, completely out of the blue) I thought "Wow, they're selling THAT!?" - coming after the previous Supra esp which was a 'chest wig wagon' at best.
This isn't doing that for me at all
If it had looked relatively close to the FT-1 concept, I'd probably have bought one. Given how well received that was, why oh why have they gone and mucked it about so much? Will reserve final judgement until seeing one in the metal but there's probably only so much that the real world can ameliorate that by. No wonder they kept the camouflage on it for so long! Real shame.

"At best", it is one of the most tuneable road cars of all time, which is still setting records. In my 13 years of owning Supras (i'm currently on my 4th mkIV), I have seen many references to chest wigs, usually coming from people with little understanding of the car. That it is likely the most over engineered performance car from any manufacturer, ever, should be reason alone for people who don't 'get' them to at least show a little respect.
From a design perspective it looks a bit of a mess, too much going on. It's not pretty from any particular angle. I find understated and clean lines so much better than go faster body panels.
It is a typical Japanese bling design by a Corsa driving ESSEX boyracer.

The price of this Supra is meaningless as it is a charity auction. This type of auction is the environment where really rich people throw their money around to one up one another and make a statement that they have so much money they can throw it away huge amounts of cash on whatever and claim it as a tax write-off later. It doesn't matter what the item is that is for sale, these auctions are designed to get huge amounts of cash pledged for charity and tax write-off purposes.
It is not indicative of what the normal market would see as the value attributed to the new Supra.
yep well summarizedIt is not indicative of what the normal market would see as the value attributed to the new Supra.
A lot of design features these days, are to apease the latest requirements, but that said - this new Supra does look disappointing, initially - at least.
I'd reserve judgement for when Japanese tuners get their hands on these, to offer improvements in power, performance and cosmetics.
Toyota has already made a Supra replacement in the form of the Lexus RC-500. We'd lucky to see one of these UK roads, but they're a bit more prevalent in Japan. Stunning design in the flesh, hands down.

Good for the charity, nothing to do with the car though I'm sure, which will be sold on fairly quick for market value. Nobody who can afford to give 1.6 million to charity is going to keep a Z4 in drag - you don't that kind of money being daft.
This ^^^^I would have thought it will be 'lent' back to the Toyota museum fairly sharpish.

He has a car museum and sold 140 of his own cars in 2018.
Toyota North America had donated the specially created car, with all money to be split between the American Heart Association and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
At $2.1m he probably paid $2m over the actual value (!) but a generous donation to charity, along with the $2.5 million (£1.94 million) paid for a 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition with VIN 001, bought by motorsport boss Rick Hendrick.

Ha - I am not sure it's entirely fair to pin the (supposed) falling standards of the entirety of Pistonheads on my single post!
It's not about willy waving and certainly not doubting the performance credentials of cars like the CTR.
I just wish the Japanese manufacturers would make something a bit more grown up and with a bit more class. I am literally the exact target audience of the new Supra as I am in the market for a new sports car at this price point. I just don't want to drive something that looks like it was styled by a teenager playing Need for Speed Underground.
i think you have tinted glasses on. the Supra has never been grown up. mark IV in particular was very loud in its day (that wing!). Japs were never subtle with their bespoke models, maybe gti versions of standard cars were more subtle than their european equivalents? Additionally, many ask why European cars have become so "un-sporty", powerful and grippy yes, but less sporty. The Alpine being a very notable exception, i think the Japs are more concerned with sports cars. I agree the CTR could be easier on the eye! It's not about willy waving and certainly not doubting the performance credentials of cars like the CTR.
