You can drive at whatever speed you like.
You may find it incurs additional charges and other prizes smile
great reply.

But bragging rights aside from the OP: unless yr driving at 3 am on a remote stretch, show me which motorway you can drive at 95 mph for an hour without needing to drop your speed. or being caught on camera, or pulled, or hitting traffic

Depends on what car and what mood I’m in.

Tesla no more than 80 but that’s mainly because more than that range is going down fast so more charging.

Bentley if it is quite will be 100+

Oddly in the Ferrari keep it below 90 on Mways.

The stretch from just after Preston up to Carlisle can often be done at that, very rare to see a copper up that way.

Say that's a journey of 80 miles. 85mph versus 65mph will save you 17.4 minutes.= possibly flawed maths unless you are talking average speed?

to average 85 you will need to spend all of the Motorway miles at 90-100 (or more) and have a very clear/unimpeded run for all of it, including any non motorway bits.

Averaging 65 is probably a 'real world' average speed over an 80 mile trip with a bit of stop start/A road at beginning/end for a driver 'making progress' where/when appropriate and having common sense where/when appropriate.

I aim to do the speed limit and sometimes I manage it. I find it far more relaxing and stress-free to potter and the difference in journey times appears to be negligible.

It's true you ever sat behind a dawdler and found yourself concentrating harder? i'm not aryton senna niether am i a dic*head. You come behind someine doing 10 under the limit it feels comically slow like you are sitting on the sofa with a playstation controller. making massive inputs but too slow to make a difference

Depends on the car - have a Mini GP most of the time and if I'm in that everything seems to settle down about 92. If I'm in the 12 year old C Class estate then it feels happiest at about 80.

Obviously traffic and weather conditions dependent but on a good M40 type day the above tends to be where I find myself.

No it was only about 20 miles of motorway. If I was doing a long journey I would aim for a higher average speed. I guess where I live (South East) the motorways always seem to be mega busy and could only dream of doing 90 anytime before midnight!

Come again? If he knows roughly what speed he is going to be doing, he is likely going to factor that into his eta, so won't be late at all.

It is called planning and time management "bro".

I tend to go as below if the weather and road conditions are fine:

No traffic - 90/95
Light traffic - 80/85
Medium Traffic - 75/80
Heavy traffic - with the flow.

All would be down if wet/snow/ice etc.

I also will never use my phone, infotainment (beyond skipping track) or do anything in my cabin whilst driving,
Do you drive with your hands at 9-3, too?
10 to 3 !!! laughlaugh
20 to 4 surely?
Nah, one hand 12 o'clock, always, baseball cap optional.

I used to sit at 99 to hopefully avoid a ban, except when I returned to Uni late on sunday nights, when I sat at 130 (most weekends for 3 yrs, no kittens died)

These days, with more cameras, I tend to sit at 84 and find I'm rarely overtaken

When towing I sit at a gps 70 and find I'm still overtaking the majority of traffic

Heavy traffic - go with the flow

light traffic - 80mph

clear road with good conditions 80-90mph. For safety reasons good distance from car in front, seat back, roof down, one hand on wheel, other on missus and right foot fondling the straight 6.

My car returns optimal MPG at 61.37 mph on a motorway, using only 22% of the available throttle travel.

However if I use 37.96% throttle the speed increases to 70.65mph and at that speed the suspension seems to work far better giving a more comfortable ride.

I've found that if I cut my steering inputs to zero cornering becomes hard but tyre wear decreased by enough to allow lower mpg. Therefore I now drive at 67.324 mph which on my venn diagram gives the best mix of journey time, mpg, wear and tear and comfort.

Why nobody else considers throttle and steering input before driving at speed just makes me sad for the human race.
