Thing is that back in the day RS fords were usually affordable to the point where your average working class punter could aspire to ownership. Yes they were a bit rough and unrefined in some areas but had relatively good performance, and maintenance was simple. They gave a good bang for buck, and it didn't matter if you abused or damaged them as repairs were cheap. I guess we're in vastly different times now ...
I don’t think many average working class punters ever bought RS200s 35 or so years ago.
People can still buy the normal RS Focus for well under the price of this - just like the RS Turbo/ RS Sierra etc was available when you could buy an RS200

To compare how cheap cars used to be is nonsensical. Look at and sit in a mk4 escort and see how basic everything is. Cars are built vastly differently these days.

Seems odd to comment on things that you obviously have absolutely no idea about. Nothing unreliable about these cars now the recalls have been carried out.

I don't consider all f30 BMWs unreliable just because there is a recall that needs to be tended to by the dealers.

I don't remember many work mates buying RS Sierras, especially if they had a mortgage and kids. They cost around a years wages back then. And mentioning an RS200 and this tuned up shopping car in the same sentence is just wrong.

i don't see why they are making such a big thing about it being 400bhp?? you can easily get the standard mk3s to 400 and over for way less than 85k?!?

Ford are so lucky to have such a courageous and persistent white knight like you.

It's great it only took ford years to acknowledge they specced some important bits out of chocolate and she to put it right.

As for £85k for this thing, sure there'll be some wealthy from working class done good who'll love it. For me it's neither something to could drive nor something nice to own for owning a sake.

It was more to make the point that not all RS cars were affordable for the average working class person
Most RS were based on tuned up shopping/family cars however - Escorts, Fiestas, Sierras, Focus

£85k on a shopping car that you couldn't drive incase you devalue it for the next collector seems madness!

Bet it's decent to drive but I doubt many will be.

If you’re going to start calling people names, at least do your research so you don’t just come across as a complete cretin.

Absolutely nothing about the engines is made of chocolate. The head gasket issue was an issue with the head gasket (funny that given the description), and it had nothing to do with its material or design. It was instead due to errors in the production process (fitting of Mustang 2.3 gaskets to the RS head).

It’s more than can be said for Porsche who do actually make their engines from Chocolate (bore scoring in the 997/987 gen cars and GT3 engines that like to catch fire or seize) and VW who like to make Tubo’s on Golf Rs that do their own oil change through the bearing seal.

Having owned plenty of VAG products and a Cayman, the Ford has, quite honestly, been the most reliable and durable of the lot. The only issues I’ve really had have been with the dealers, not the car. It had a new engine under warranty due to the head gasket, but it’s not used a drop of oil or coolant now it’s got the right gasket in it.

Anyway, let’s not bother discussing much more. I have 380bhp rear biased 4WD hatch to go and drive which is far more appealing than arguing on here!

Nobody will remember it in 20 years. Or care!

It reminds me of the old dealer specials, slap some stickers on and call it limited edition to sell to some gullible mug laugh

People seem to care enough to spend stupid money on the RS200.

Same could be said about putting 85k in the S&P500 for 20 years. Should earn you 200K, but won’t need to pay for parking/storage fees nor maintenance fees

Well, I love it. Maybe not £85k but I'd expect £25k is the exclusivity and the rest is the fancy mods.

I'd expect it to be an absolutely awesome car to drive but I doubt anyone will ever get to review one.

I'd rather spend £85k on this than on many cars which cost the same but will lose half of their value in the first 2years and likely be not as entertaining to drive.
The ironic things is how they drive is kind of irrelevant. Because they won't be.

1: You obviously don't know anything about the car. Nothing was "made out of chocolate" and the recalls did not cost buyers anything. Everything was sorted in 2018 and the problem tended to rear its head late 2017 and early 2018. How is that "taking years"? Or do you struggle with the counting?

2: What brand new car for a theoretical £85k would you prefer?

Yep far better to drove than a Lotus, 911 or Caterham.

And it has a big boot for when you go to Asda. A bargain if ever I saw one.

And everyone knows the collector/investor market will still be shooting up for years to come.

Crazy prices notwithstanding, te Heritage edition is a better buy I'd say - isn't this just a tarted up dealer special?
