RE: 'TOO 510W': Spotted

Haha ridiculous prices for personalized plates in the UK.
Over here in sunny Belgium you can order whatever you want for 1000 Euro.
Personally i wouldn't spend my money on it (i hate paying taxes and filling pockets of those too lazy too work) but i might consider a very difficult to read (and remember) combination (max 8 letters) like " LHRTIDXI " or whatever ... one never knows what it's good for ;-).

I detest paying tax in the UK too and scrupulously avoid doing so wherever I legitimately can, but on a national level I'm very happy that the sale of number plates has raised some £2bN for the Treasury since it started in the early 90's because that's reduced the burden of taxation elsewhere and represents government revenue that's been taken out of somebody else's pocket and not mine. I have one too and quite agree.
Mine's a number 1 that was issued free in the 1930s and has been in the family ever since. It doesn't spell anything - I've Googled to check - and has never been allocated to a car registered outside it's original county of issue.
It's been on cars taking generations of brides and grooms to family weddings and funerals and on cars that took my dad and uncle off to war and on cars that bought newborn babies home from hospital and on cars competing in rallies and on touring holidays round Europe in the late 40's and 50's.
I expect it's worth quite a lot but money is meaningless because its actually worth way more than that. It's a piece of family history that my son or grandson will have one day.
I dislike the modern trend of regarding number plates as materialistic status symbols and particularly share your contempt for people who think you can spell words with numbers or who feel the need to draw attention to themselves by misrepresenting them.

I have a private plate which I purchased nearly 30 years ago. It has my initials and my birthday (date) and is quite vain I know but it's just very personal to me. It was also quite a good investment because I know it's worth much more than I paid for it; although I can't ever imagine selling it.
Call me a hypocrite when I now say that I find some private plates to completely 'naff'. Spelling out words. Altering letters/numbers so they (try to) mean something else or mis-spacing letters/numbers is just not right IMHO.

I have three early prefix HOL plates bought when DVLA first opened up the sales. I only ever bother putting them on our older vehicles and i'll pass two of them on to my own boys at some point.

Someone should start a number plate thread where all these spotted plates could be posted.
Nobody with a life would be interested in biggin up bodged plates. No change there then.
In fact, didnt you get the last one closed, doing just that?

I have seen Y S0 5LOW on a lambo in Marbella that looked pretty good.
Sums up nicely the Marbella Chav mentality. For a bit of contrast though there was a beautiful Aston Martin DB4 parked next to that.

Clearly not.
This being a number plate thread.
I didn't ask if you were banned from a numberplate thread. This being a number plate thread.
I asked if you were banned from the numberplate thread. Which would explain why you're getting so wet about it here, instead of posting there.
Remind me to clear it with you first before I next post.

On the basis that the DB4 had a proper legal plate. Can't imagine for one minute it hadn't.
