RE: Alfa Romeo Giulia TI: Spotted
Discussion
Hmm . brave claim against stiff opposition such as the RO 80 and the Gordon Keeble (and Citroen DS , Cord XJ12 MK 3 , sundry Lancias , Quattroporte etc ) I also rate the 1600E Mk 2 Cortina - it is only its once ubiquity that has stopped it rising to its proper place in the pantheon of saloon greats .But the little Alfa it is still impossibly cool- and so is its modern namesake .

Achingly beautiful is just silly hyperbole but the Giulia was still an arrestingly attractive car in period, making nearly all UK equivalents look like the Jurassic era relics they were . Compare the spec of faux sporting horrors like the VX4/90 or the MG Magnette with the Alfa - twin cam, , 5 speed , discs all round and slipperier than an E-Type .
I dare say it was a decent car to drive, perhaps even a good one, but to my eye it's not as attractive as say a mk1 Cortina or indeed a mk4 MG Magnette.Certainly looks cheap compared to something like a Lotus Cortina these days though.

These are cheap compared to a Lotus Cortina but the more natural competitor would have been the faster Alfa Giulia Ti Super........and those appear to be fetching 50k upwards looking at ads
These are comparatively good performance for the asking price as quicker than a Cortina GT
Certainly not the prettiest Alfa, but practical and fun with plenty of tuning bits available. Good price too.
In period they were certainly a cut above many of their contemporaries - discs all round, five speed, all alloy twin cam.
Most famous to UK car fans as the police cars in The Italian Job.
The weird bootlid design was part of Alfa's interest in Kamm tail aerodynamics, best seen on the TZ:
