Would you still go Diesel...

They are both going, the 320i just sold straight away.
Advertised Friday, someone arranged to see it within an hour on Saturday, he took it out, and liked it and said he would collect Monday. Also had 4 others waiting to hear if it sold too.
OK, going to be fair to the 320d now. Mine is a manual, diesel and manual is not a great combo imho, heavier clutch, short rev range so constantly swapping gears etc. etc. However, I would happily live with this car in auto guise.
By the way, Z3 Coupe returned 38.1mpg today over 196 miles, that is from Norwich to Islington and home again.
First time I have ever reset the mpg on a journey in that car, and have to say I was very impressed.

Someone earlier posted a Merc V6 doing 25 urban and 35 extra urban. My RS4 does that.
Performance diesels don't make sense these days.
Took my SQ5 for a decent run the other day and it was showing 46.1 mpg average over 200 miles. Although mostly motorway miles I wasn't being canny with it either. Now I doubt that's accurate as OBC's always tell porkies but even supposing I was actually getting around 40mpg that's pretty good going for a big old bus.Performance diesels don't make sense these days.

That’s pretty good from RS4. I got 35mpg cruising at 70-75 to my parents and back(100 mile round trip) in 9-3 v6. Performance diesels don't make sense these days.
A car that always surprised me was my mates e36 M3. Cruising London to Silverstone 80-90 most of the way we worked out it had done just under 40mpg. Pretty good for 1998 car.

Full disclosure, I usually have the dog in the car so I drive quite gently, and years of big mileage biking means my eyes are focused as far ahead as they can possibly go, which typically means lifting rather than braking (even if I don't do much biking these days ).
Once this tank is done I'll work it out and see what brimming it works out at.

I have done a full to full check and my actual was about 4 mpg lower.
My 40i has loosened up nicely now, had some spare time on a longer run last week so decided to just cruise up the motorway and see how little fuel I could use. The result was this >
When I work out my figures brim to brim it's pretty close to the OBC figures but even if you knock a bit off that's very impressive for a near 400bhp saloon. Lots of my mileage is short stuff round town so a diesel was never going to work for me but it's nice being able to sip fuel if I want to be sensible. Going to Germany next month (if we are allowed!) and I made it to Adenau on 3/4 of a tank last time, everyone else needed to stop for fuel on the way.

In answer to the original question I've had a few diesels over the years(they've worked well for me doing 30k miles a year). However I don't think that I will have another diesel though when I get rid of the current one I have. I'll go petrol next for sure.
I am dreading the electric future rightly or wrongly though for some reason. Hopefully by then though, you will be able to go 700 miles for about 50p in electric all being well!

I used to get 23mpg from my Z4M, and I hardly used that either. You need to try harder!
I'm trying believe me, but opportunities in my part of the world are limited! At least I've got the average speed up past 45mph. Sometimes I actually go a bit above the 70 limit if there are no cameras.
