Talk about cars in a car thread? Nah, go on about perceived wealth/image and made up customers potentially using finance.

Fine, if that's the forum now, it is what it is. fk me.
Yep

Seems standard practice on so many manufacturer themed threads in GG now.

Land Rover ones always seem to attract a particularly special class of small minded bellend though.

the hatred some people have of JLR on this site is hilarious, I think it looks great except for the exhausts.

What’s your point? There are cars from the 1950s which can still do the everyday car thing, just like a brand new one - should we ignore all the improvements in performance, NVH, economy, handling, technology etc. as pointless?

Or are you saying that, somehow, Land Rover is magically fooling everyone and other manufacturers have advanced further?
My point is that this is lazy stuff from JLR and smacks of desperation. Get an existing model and throw some Jaguar V8 motors in it because they’ve got lots hanging around.

This does not advance the brand one bit.

The fact that I could afford one but can’t be bothered is important. Given LRs sales I am not the only one. The evidence speaks for itself.

yes A quick squirt of black paint would probably help that bit. But some/most will like them being there in their factory form.

LR seem to be using the bar of soap method to product design these days; every iteration is similar but smoother. I think this and the new Evoque suffer from a lack of any cladding anywhere, they look fine in a photoshoot in the city but a bit weird out in the sticks.

Would many buy this over a RRS SVR?
City....where most live.
In the sticks....where they don't.

Sounds like they've got it right to me!

As for the RRS SVR, it's £20k more expensive, bigger and looks older.

I very much doubt that this car is being launched in “desperation” under the ill conceived notion that it might contribute to arresting an international decline in sales which is impacting the industry as a whole.

This is just a new trim and engine combo being added at the top end of the range. It’s not as if that’s a rare event for any manufacturer.

The fact that you don’t want one is not a particularly reliable yardstick as to whether they are going to be able to sell them or not.

As for “advancing the brand” surely that exactly what the upcoming Defender launch is all about ?

You do realise it isn't intended to go mud-plugging?

Of course you do, you're just trolling. Perhaps time to grow up wink

The Velar is a good looking car. I would be interested to know how the pop out door handles fared in the polar vortex conditions in the USA. I believe they were engineered to work down to -10°C. Temperature has fallen below that on accession even here in the UK. Anyone know?
Brother lives in Chicago. His neighbour has a Tesla S....pop out handles work fine at -10, and still work fine when it gets cold wink

Exactly, did the X5m/X6m or even the 8 series GT Coupe get this sort of treatment when revealed?

I think people forget that Land Rover and Range Rover aren't necessarily the same thing anymore (this whole three brand pillar idea) sure the Range Rover will keep up with the Land Rover off road but it's not JLR's fault they want to take advantage of the Baseball cap bedecked wannabe footballer/Instagram celeb is it?

And that cannot come fast enough IMO.

I’m not being down on JLR. I’m a big fan and I’ve owned their products old and new. But I am worried about them.

What’s the problem with people buying cars that they like such that those vehicles become popular ?
No problem, stated my opinion and some folk on here (those who seem wound up tighter than a coiled spring incidentally), don't like it.

I think the simple point I was making was that many people seem to buy RR's for their supposed 'exclusivity' (as someone so eloquently put it on a previous thread). Yet the irony is that because they are ten a penny, probably because anyone can get the finance these days, then they are not exclusive at all. Buying the latest RR must be a bit like those multi-millionaires who buy yachts, and then park it up in Monte Carlo only to find out that someone else has bought a bigger yacht with an even more tasteless interior. How does that make you feel? As Elton John once said - "It's sad, so sad. It's a sad, sad situation".

Does an X6M (ha!) advance the brand? A Cayenne Turbo? What a bizarre attitude.

Way way way way way overpriced.

This is not worth a premium over a Macan. No way.

JLR have shot themselves in the head ( again ).
Macan Turbo Performance is £70k with a lower spec, uglier and over 100bhp less.

Okay I know it's not the biggest in the Range Rover line-up and sits in the middle, so I take your point that it's not technically a "large" SUV relatively speaking. But, at circa 4.8m long, 1.7m high and 2.5 tonnes I think of it as a large SUV rightly or wrongly, as it's still a large car in my book.
