The reviews of the car read well, but it is not pitched at the type R performance so surprised that it is priced as such. It's also not a halo model like the RS will be.

It's just dropped in desirability for me as I can't justify the price Vs my current drive

everything seems a bit expensive these days, a 2.0 tdi golf 'R-line' with options is near £40k and I've just spec'd a golf gti to £45k !

These will sell by the droves regardless. The Focus ST rarely wins any 'top hot hatch' battles but it's the one you see the most on the road by a huge margin.
Won CH battle vs astra vxr and megane. Last I saw he's listened to around here

It's the last day of me having my ST today before I go to something with half the power.

I liked the ST. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. It was about cheap enough, powerful enough, quick enough, reliable enough and comfortable enough. It was so perfectly middle ground for every task; it's the holotype for cars. Sometimes, when something sits so perfectly in the middle, it's the perfect choice and that's why I think the ST was such a likable car.

I'd definitely recommend one to someone looking for a likable, livable, manageable, hot hatch.

Love it but the cheaper, lighter and faster Civic Type R would be my first choice.

How much ?????

That’s mad I thought it was going to come in around 26-28 !! It’s going to have to be very good or come with a hefty dealer discount to chose it over a Type R !
Suppose it depends on how much kit comes as standard. Plus, the Type R is an acquired taste. Anyone over 40 driving the Type R looks like he's going through a mid-life crisis.

Outright power isn't always what people want. The Focus is understated (maybe a little to understated) which will suit more family / company car buyers. I'm sure the discounts on the ST will be better than those of the Type R too.

I'd say the ST is more Megane rival. The Megane has already lost to the Type R. And as a day to day driver, the ST will be better (less hyper) that the RWS (and apparently flawed by reviews) Megane.

I'm just awaiting new of the Focus RS. That'll be the one to have.

Thanks to the miracle of irresponsible finance, you'll be seeing these in industrial estates near you as soon as next month.

Back in 2012!

It's almost definitely the best all-rounder, but it's never been as focussed or sharp as the competition.

Not bashing PCP. If you want something, and you are willing to pay for it, so be it; Life is short, do what you want - Etc. etc.

But it is a truth; I've been to a fair few evening meet ups of late and there's some very young (New) Fiesta ST owners:- Good for them, but they probably are being shafted for the pleasure tongue out

Your opinion isn’t a truth. It’s just an opinion.

I'd have a Civic Type R if it didn't <Clarkson>look like it had crashed through a branch of Halfords</Clarkson>.

No matter how awesome it might be there is no way someone >40 isn't going to look a right tit in it so it's right off my list of potential cars.

Although I can see Honda's problem, they made the normal Civic so tarted up that they were stuck with what to do with the Type R to make it more "sporty".

I mean, the first time I saw a *normal* "new" Civic for a second I thought it was the Type R with it's spoiler, big vents, skirts...Oh no it's the cooking model.

My initial reaction to the CTR was that I could never own a car that ugly. I have seen two on the road and yes, it's still ugly.
And yet....

I can't help liking the damn thing because it basically sticks 2 fingers up to conventional styling and it's not homogenised and it's not a clone of every other model in the range.

Always liked the ST but it would be the Honda for me.

Price looks a bit steep, but this car could be really good beyond the numbers. Looks like they didn't go cheap with the hardware, e.g. PS4S tyres where at Audi RS you get Hankook and Porsche Goodyear. Not bad tyres at all, but nevertheless a possible indication of the level of this Ford. Good brakes. Proper diff compared to last one. Relatively high capacity engine less depending on turbocharging. And of course lots of time setting up the car properly...
