2002 2.5tdi Disco with 152k on the clock. At £1500, a good shed candidate or a liability? Anyone have any experience?
My understanding is you will be in a world of pain with niggles in that vehicle. We go shooting from a well used disco and it's always having issues, electrical gremlins being common. It's robust enough and plods about however.
I borrowed one for a couple of days when I needed to tow a car trailer.

Rot, rot and more rot.

Drove like a trawler. Rather good fun in a masochistic sort of way, and very practical. Not as frugal as you would like.

Electrical problems galore. Bloody lights switching themselves on and off at random. Was necessary to disconnect battery overnight to stop drain.

I rather liked it, but unless you need a 4WD and the ability to tow something very heavy, then a Mk2 Focus estate or a Mondeo estate is miles more sensible.

Looks a great shed for 1.1-1.2k after haggling and almost 13months ticket! MOT history seems pretty good too! I'm sure will do someone a great turn.

I've never seen that weird rear middle seat table contraption before. Was that a optional extra or did I just never spot it in my ownership of one?
You've never read my XC70 thread then. My spare is currently in the loft.

Looks very tidy, wouldn't make a bad first car for someone.
Thanks, it's a decent little car and like you say a good first car as you won't find anything much cheaper to run/buy. We have someone coming to take it for a drive on Sunday so fingers crossed we strike a deal. Even if I got £750/800 for it, for a few hours of hard work it's been worth it and my nan gets a few quid in her pocket.

Lots of demand for stuff like this.

I paid £250 for a broken and scruffy 2007 Citroen C1.

One starter motor and a battery later it was a runner.

Stuck it on eBay and it immediately sold for £850.

I reckon I could have sold a dozen at that price.

Ignore all the offers you get for £600 from car dealers looking to turn a quick profit.

World of pain would be the best description for a old high mileage disco

Thank you all. I haven't pursued it any further so I'll just keep plodding about in the ole faithful Zafira. It was a bit of an extravagance in shedding terms anyway as it wasn't a purchase out of necessity. I think I liked the idea of it being more utilitarian and a good tow vehicle.

I was the biggest Land Rover fan but now I have a Mercedes ML and I’ll probably have a G or GL next. Make of that what you will smile

I remember reading your thread actually, the mismatched rear lights amused me and had me check the V70 I had at the time.

A vital addition to the shed, is this considered a bad move though? Spending frivolous money? Tbf it did come with a set for the Mog so I'll call it the free set well used.

My shed was given a scruff last week to go along with it's bubbling arches.

Odd place for it, must have happened in a company car park... almost as if someone wearing jeans with studs rubbed their fat arse over it whilst talking to someone.

All I know is that if this happened to my pride and joy BMWs of the past I'd be having a falling down moment.

With Shed, its just another day biggrin

Had similar on my recent Scotland trip.
Tour bus pulled up next to us in a tight car park.
Lady got out and scrapped her bag down the rear-quarter panel.
She was probably more annoyed about a dirty bag than I was about the scratch.

I've fallen out with my shed

Steering rack started leaking, I've bought another one for it for the princely sum of £108....but it's just kind of sat in my workshop with the new rack in it's box plonked on top of the car.

I've been offered a 2.2 petrol Astra G converitble for similar money, needs a release bearing for the clutch and a 3 piece clutch kit can be had for £100...starting to think it may be a worthwhile summer shed, and I've never had a convertible so...

Give my shed a 3 week rest....how does it repay me..noisy cv joint.

No untoward noises or warning prior to being parked up.

So I've done what any self respecting shedder does....repacked it with a load of fresh grease and hopefully nurse it along till better weather and I can be arsed changing it or a catastrophic failure of something more mission critical like the cambelt...whichever happens first.

ok so first shed fettle - after studying the rear parking ecu - black and red wires go in, parking sensor wires go in and black and red wires go out to rear lights, so i snipped both black and red wires and stripped and block connected the in/out together, bypassing the parking ecu.

went to replace the 5amp fuse only to find i dont have a spare - not even a 7.5amp fuse .... so trip to halfords for massive markup on a 5amp fuse this arvo... at least i know the car will start and i have not done anything catastrophic to it! (nervous laughter)
