Looks great for the money!

The Golf has developed a slight DMF rattle under certain conditions. I need it to last a little while though since money is a bit tight at the moment and I'm still not sure whether to stick or twist.

Just for thread interest, here's the photo from the ad, looks ok on the face of it. Train is at 15:17!! Shed excitement awaits!!

I really like those!

And the rear always makes me chuckle, it has to be one of the biggest arses on a car.

STIfree said:
It also unveiled some scratches I'd managed to put on the roof when loading crap into it the other week. Kinda felt bad now the car was clean, so went at it for a minute with a bottle of polish that's probably half my age.

This morning i noticed an adverse effect from polishing my roof with a very old bottle of polish. bks hehe

For some reason the rear end on these always reminds me of ET:

I'm just dreaming at the moment, but someone tell me why this would be a bad idea.

1 previous owner, bought it at £37,000, 7 months MOT.

I'd not want to keep it more than 6 months as I'm sure it'll eventually cost you some when something breaks

but £2200!

"https://www.facebook.com/marketplace" is why. It's cheap for a reason, it certainly won't stay cheap.

Oh it's almost certainly going to be expensive at some point, I just wonder if you could be lucky enough to own it and sell it on in a short enough period that it doesn't cost you an arm.

But I dont think Facebook marketplace is an issue on this ad, its well written and sounds decent. Especially 1 owner for most of its life, could you imagine how much they must of spent keeping it running for 15 years!

Risk is subjective to the individual, you seem sold so why not.

On a side note - I rarely use facebook. I logged in recently to checkout the "marketplace" for the first time and crikey, it's a bit like Aladdin's cave for us shedders. eek

I suppose the problem with that sort of thing is, it's only one big bill away from scrap and at circa £2k it's then about making a difficult decion on whether to lose £1,800 or pump money into an old expensive car.

If the Volvo has cost me £1,500-2,000 i'd probably be looking for a replacement box, that would likely be another £700 including fixing on top of what i've already spent out, on a 170k , 15 year old car. As it is, i'll see what i can salvage from it now.

I'd go for it! laugh

Might be worth it for a couple of months at least, and even if something major comes up, will it not be worth breaking it for parts over trying to sell it on?

I kept saying I'd do the same myself, but the last guy in my area who started breaking cars on his drive was served with a council notice to stop. Although I'd be limiting myself to one vehicle at a time, and not 6 rotting Reliants at a time.

I haven't yet Bonefish no, to be honest I've been desperate for a car and trying to sort that out. Now I've sorted something i can pay a bit of attention to the XC and working out what to do. Will give him a call next week.

Might as well go for it. Worst case scenario you end up putting it up for £1200 if it goes wrong and you deal with the vermin that will message you offering 500£ cahs. Worth a punt though

Graham's mobile is the one at the bottom of the page:

Some useful reading about AW boxes on there, too.

Even if it borked in a big way there has to be over 1k in parts value alone.....not a huge risk.

Shed 2 (Mk2 Focus Hatch Auto) had been misfiring under load so I replaced the coil pack, leads and plugs with parts I'd picked up during one of the many ECP sales, now driving perfectly. Also had my friendly mechanic do a bit of welding on a part of the exhaust which had become loose.
What engine? The petrol engine is prone to water ingress in to the plug holes causing misfires.... happened to mine (went through 8 spark plugs and a few coil packs and couple of HT leads when diagnosing but all OK now) but remedied with some direct fit parts from Volvo and some silicone

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

I had a stumble on Gumtree and couldn't find a cheaper Porsche (of any model) that runs and drives for less than that Cayanne. Amazing value!

I'm really just dreaming at the moment. But I've been hankering over one for a couple of years now so it might come to fruition in the future when I'm not soo dependent on one car.

Mine is annoying me at the moment.

Flashing coolant light occasionally, full of coolant and hoping it's a sensor.
