Mine (my shed) has had a number of water ingress problems since I acquired it 4 years ago. I patched up the leaks that I could identify but for the life of me I've not been able to find the worst leak that saturates the entire passenger side every winter. To put it into perspective water's actually sloshing around now..... It's shameful but I just can't find this leak and I've practically given up. Thing is the car's mechanically bulletproof it really is, I can't bare to get rid of it because I know the next shed will have other problems (f'ked engine probably).

Anyone else with a leaky fker? How can I justify getting rid of it!!!
My K11 micra had terminal rot under the windscreen flooded the passenger footwell constantly....a few strategically drilled holes in the passenger floorpan = no more puddles

Update on my “shed” I purchased a few weeks ago for just over shed money.

The sheer lack of shine, polish and rusty wings got to me so I’ve spent some money fitting new wings, giving it a going over with a polisher and as it needed 4 tyres I found some alloys for the same price as I would be for tyres, and the steels are sold to a mate

When I picked it up

Today

Now in keeping with proper shedding, I acquired a free Citroen C2 diesel van on Monday, it had been sitting for nearly two years and the owner was going to scrap it. I offered him scrap money but he was having none of it and was glad to be rid of it.

After fitting a new battery I stuck it in for an MOT, it’s done 3 miles since it’s last One in 2018, it duly failed on a cv boot, wiper blades and the alternator cooked itself on the mot ramp so £12 from the breakers today and I have a replacement.

Looking at less that £300 finished with a years test

Not sure what to do with it, revel in the fact its utter crap but will run for weeks on the same tank of fuel or get rid to someone that can use it

In fact my brother has m one to use as a taxi. Much to my surprise the council let him buy a £700 Avensis, plate it with the council and use the 2005 Toyota as a private hire taxi. 8 hrs a day 6 days per week and zero problems over the last 5 months, they are almost indestructible!
Solid tanks those.
I rear ended one many years ago. My civic didn’t fair well got written off.
The lady in the avensis got out and was like “did you hit me? Erm yeah sorry look at my car” All that happened to her was her bumper had fallen down. Clipped it back on and she drove off to work while I waited for recovery.

Out of curiosity, what car is it?

Time to change the rear top mounts and shocks, from the look of what I removed it was all original, after 181k needed doing as the mounts had separated.
Of the 4 bolts holding, 2 snapped and 1 broke the inside captive, grinder and punch, 3 new nuts & bolts with thread lock and we are together.
1997 V70.

What's your thoughts on the v70 I've found a 2003 v70 2.4 petrol auto anything I should look out for?

I love them, had an 2005 d5 auto before this, 2.4 is a pretty reliable engine, I would do a sump dump on the ‘sealed for life’ gearbox, (remove drain plug, measure what comes out and fill with same quantity)
Handbrake cables are a pain in the ass, vacuum engine mounts can be problematic.
Pretty much do the basic checks that you would for any car.
My 97 broke down the other week, cam position sensor (can go on any car) bought a known used one for a fiver, 5 minutes to fit and running again.
There are lots for sale with mega miles, must be something good about them.

Thought of that but the carpet would have to be butchered / removed for that to work, otherwise it'd still go mouldy and smell like a swamp..

MK3 Mondeo. I've resealed the door membranes so ruled that one out, doubt it's the pollen filter because the area behind the glove box is dry. Might get a clue if I removed the passenger seat and nearside carpet but I know that would be a ballache.

Yes I ripped out all the cushioning and soundproofing under the carpet which seems to just absorb water and never dry out.
The overcarpet is very thin and just dried out really quickly never really smelt or went mould after the 'mods'.......ymmv

Rear light cluster seal? Boot seal/hinge?

Door aperture seal? Can you nudge the latchplate in to pull the door in tighter against the seal?
I’d check front and back and make sure it’s not either door causing the issue.

...To be honest the front door aperture seal is on the questionable side, it definitely leaks but I'd say it's superficial. I doubt it leaks to the extent to fill the entire nearside with a pool of water put it that way. That said there's nothing to lose by aiming for a tighter seal so I will adjust the latch plate if possible.

Not had a 407 (does it have a sunroof?) but all Clios have leaky sunroofs, even the ones without a sunroof. frown
Water gets into the centre light and drips through the switch and drops onto the gear lever/handbrake/12v socket area - not a good idea.
I have sealed up the top front rubber, full length but also at each end, between the drain hole and the rubber. No more water in the centre light (yet).

Bedded my new brakes in today, turned out the n/s caliper front had seized due to a split boot and water had corroded the piston badly.
Rears will need discs and pads at some point but the o.e front discs had some full 70k which is decent going really.
O/s front caliper was fine apart from a sticky slider pin, all cleaned up easily enough.
Easy enough cars to work on the Toyotas but this is the second car I've had where a piston was seized solid due to water ingress past a boot.

So I went to view a Volvo v70 earlier today at a garage, very odd place!

It looked as honest as Del boy and Boycie's card games.

The vehicle was advertised for £999 having never entertained a vehicle at this price point before I went in with my eyes open.

When I checked the Mot history of the vehicle it seemed to be good to be true, never failed an Mot not even so much as recent advisory.

All of the lights and electrics worked, no warning lights on the dash and the vehicle started first time, apart from a flat tyre and some bodywork issues which are to be expected for its age all seemed good.

One of the tyres definitely needed replacing as it was ancient and perishing and all of the brakes looked as if they had seen better days.

The carpets weren't saturated but felt damp in places, the vehicle had no signs of valeting whatsoever so I'm assuming there maybe a leak from somewhere not immediately obvious.

After pumping up the tyre I took the vehicle out for a drive and very quickly it was obvious that the tracking was completely out, the steering wheel whist travelling on a straight road was 45 degrees to the left and when I braked heavily the car pulled massively over to the right.

The vehicle had no service history present or available or any other paper work except for the last Mot and v5.

I could have overlooked the missing service history because of the online Mot history.

When I started to discuss with the first chap about price everything was very casual and I'm sure a deal could have been struck.

Until another chap turned up who was very bullish and pushy, I pointed out the issues to him after pointing out all of the positives of the vehicle and telling him I felt the vehicles value was more towards the £600 mark everything considered.

he then became quite animated and upset that I had questioned the price of the vehicle, which was a real shame as I don't think the chap understands how barging works!

I duly left rather miffed not before being blocked in by the owner and one of his colleagues, whether or not it was deliberate it forced me to take to the curb to leave after it was apparent they weren't moving, all very odd behaviour from a company trying to sell cars.

I don't know what's wrong with me though as I still can't help but think with all the issues I found and the strange place selling the car that the Mot history must mean this it's a reliable car of sorts and I should go back and buy it am I barking mad?

That is worth £999 regardless of the issues. No wonder he got stroppy.

I've got to agree - it sounds like a reasonable price to me. He probably could have responded better I suppose
