I spent £725 at a garage on maintenance for Exxon5 yesterday so I think you’re doing alright.
That's good lol.
Ice cold air con too so now I just hope the boot is big enough for our trip.

Fun one in the 354k mile '98 Audi A4. Seat mounting bracket had broken giving the unintended option of a fully reclining driver's seat seat and making accelerating and braking rather fun!

Seat out and welded up and back to normal.

ABS unit went pop a while ago and finally got around to fitting a second hand one. Fitting was surprisingly easy and works great (just needs a new wheel speed sensor now).

Nice one, Rich. Assuming it's all working, that's a nice car.

Ive got a bad balljoint on the rear of my W163 ML270 CDI. I've decided to keep it until it's dead and think I'll have to change it as it's popping the toe out on the rear and affecting the steering. I guess it's a false economy not to do it since it will affect tyre wear and fuel economy

I'd have loved to kept the ml as its my perfect car.
If I had initially bought a better one, (non cat c) I would've kept it.

Annoyingly I saw a lovely ml350 last week on Facebook so thought about buying that but all of yesterday, it never appeared yet just before bed it popped straight up.

Now I'm not sure what to do as I really did like the ML.

Looking for suggestions really...

I bought a Citroen C4 1.6 hdi 110 bhp hatch on a 57 plate 3 years ago for £2k with 60k miles. One owner. I had been intending to lease a Golf but while waiting for a shiny -suited salesman in the VW showroom happened to be browsing on my phone and spotted the Citroen just a few miles away.

I've put another 60k on it, mostly motorway, with a lifetime mpg of 58+ (OBC). It's comfortable, not too noisy, and with cruise and an aftermarket head unit has most of what I need if not much cachet. I do like the shape though.

It's getting on though and crashes a bit over rough roads. Doesn't like cheap fuel - sulphur stink and has put up an emission warning light in the past. Aircon has a leak or bad sensor - needs diagnosing. Other than that runs and pulls well except when heavily loaded. On top of servicing and consumables, cambelt and seater pump it's had no problems. My annual mileage has dropped (hasn't everybody's!).

I know the received wisdom is that Citroen's are st, but that's not been my experience. Apart from one cheap dog of a BX I've had a good BX and a great Xantia in the past too.

So...

The urge for something a bit more luxo and fitting is upon me. But used cars look expensive right now and I'm reluctant to open up the piggy bank. Budget would be up to £10k but the money would be better spent I'm sure elsewhere. I'm not spotting the £2k bargains right now.

I guess I'm asking for opinions.

The C4 could probably do with Aircon sorted, a suspension refresh and an EGR valve, so maybe £1500 thrown at it. But I don't see why it wouldn't be good for another 60k miles.

What does the collective think? Stick or twist?

Probably doesn't help that i'm staring at it on my cctv and my wifes Leaf makes it look like a toy car.

That new leaf is such a good looking car, I had the generation before until I got made home based and went back to shedding - still miss it now even if it did look like a drunken toddler had drawn the design and Nissan just ran with it

Ha. Yeh it's a huge improvement over the previous model.

I honestly can't fault it. Costs absolutely nothing to run, will do circa 150 miles on a charge and has every toy you could think of. Sadly it's just not big enough to 'go away' in.

My Honda is in for it's MOT tomorrow morning. Please pray for it, I think it might need it (I could be wrong though)!!

Yeh that was also my only gripe with ours, ran it along side a BMW E91 Touring for that very reason with top box on for luggage, 2 kids in the back and the dog in the boot

Just looked. The Leaf is 20cm wider than the 5 series!
So much for buying a bigger car laugh

Is it really?! An e39 isn’t a particularly small car....

I wouldn’t have thought my E53 X5 was 20cm wider than an E39 let alone a Leaf!

£1200 summer shed failed its MOT last week.

Torn boot on front drop link and broken rear spring.

New drop link was £18 and second hand OE spring was £13.50, so back on the road for less than £35.

The garage had quoted £250.

Interior load space I would bet is much bigger in the 5 series though as its a nice square estate - the leaf's boot isnt actually a bad size though

It is. About 130 litres bigger but my ML was circa 800 litres.

Ah well, it's a nice car and i'm sure we'll fit everything in.

Has 3 remote keys with car and none of them worked pressing the buttons but a quick read showing that they're sealed and the battery is soldered in place meant it's not a job I can do.
Skipped to the programming bit, gave it a go and now one of the keys is working perfectly. Happy days.

Hmm... looks like it might be even smaller than the C4.

Having moaned there's no bargains atm I came across a clean-looking local 58 petrol C4 Coupe just after posting - slightly more than shed money but just 60k miles. I've always liked the 3-door shape and they're getting rare now, so I'm popping over to have a look tomorrow.

Fair enough. I think that mine is aesthetically worse than yours but intrinsically probably better. I can't find faults with anything mechanical or electrical on it (apart from this worn joint, but I'm not using it between now and it being repaired anyway)
