Same engine as in my Megane, £30 road tax, 55MPG all day long with 65MPG+ on a run. If it is the five speed gearbox these are happiest sitting around 65/70 MPH. Above this they start to get a little noisy. They are crazy good on fuel on a run, I recently drove from north wales to Surrey (266 miles) and had just over 1/4 of a tank when I left. I have never owned another car where I would even attempt that journey with so little fuel in the car.

Mine has been 100% reliable in three years, the only thing I have had to replace is glow plugs. Turned out three of mine had failed, it still started OK but was just a bit rougher in cold weather.

It has been the cheapest to run car I have ever owned.

I've just put a new starter, cambelt and waterpump and belts on it, its worth spending a few quid on it as it cost nothing really

That does look good.

Old TTs are no longer fashionable and can be a bit of a steal.

WBAC suggest that mine (2005/98k) is worth £900, which seems stingy.

Bit fiddly to work on. Removing the air box and battery tray just to get at the starter motor seems a bit excessive.

Main gripe is all the emissions stuff. Never seen so much crap.

One of my first jobs was to remove all of this:



And replace it all with this:



I think I'll do the timing belt and water pump next spring. It doesn't look too nasty a job.

Does removing the SAI pump not throw up the EML?

I might do all that to mine if not.

I have another shed waiting on the drive for me when I get home. Not seen it, driven it or even sat in it. All part of the gamble! I just paid and had it delivered as per usual.

It’s a 1.9 turbo diesel auto Passat estate on an 03 plate with 165k on the clock. Will let you know what it’s like when I get to see it!

Yes I've been astonished at the prices being asked of older cars since Covid. Example, on Autotrader at the moment someone near me is asking £2250 for a 2002 VW Passat 1.9TDI with 107K on the clock. Its a private sale too. That's more than they were going for when I sold my own B5.5 Passat 7 years ago, a 1.8T with 130K miles which I was happy to get £995 for! Pre Covid, that car would be advertised at £995, I am sure.

Yep, you will get an EML.

My SAI pump was leaking and sounded like an Avro Vulcan. It had already thrown up the EML, so I was no worse off for removing it.

I can clear it with my fault code reader and it will stay off for a week or so, but it will come back.

A remap would get rid of it properly. If the car was a minter I would spend the cash and have the extra 40hp at the same time, but the TT is only meant to be a cheap bit of fun.

The main benefit is the better access to the oil filter....

This is exactly what one of my trade friends was saying the other day... outfit next to him have even been buying up private sale cars and sticking them up for sale on their forecourt they are that desperate

Things like factories shutting, main dealerships shutting, BCA/Manheim shutting and I bet there are people dumping/cutting PCP's left right and centre if they've been affected by furlough and going to a cheap motor or even down to 1 car in the household, I know I would have if I got in that situation

Mk1 TT’s seem to be rock bottom at the moment..

My two buddies have both bought 225 coupe’s for sub £500

One an 52 plate and one an 03

Also fully agree with deleting all the above all mine have this done. Makes the engine bay much neater also.

Ha, you lot.
Bought 3 Volvo V50's last night.

A silver one for spares. £300.
A red one with a reported injector problem - plan is for the injector stuff to go from the silver one to the red one.
A yellow one. This was meant to be the spares, but after getting it home, the engine dying issue was a MAF - disconnected and it runs fine. £350.

So I have 3 Volvos, all in leather, with nice seats, in pretty decent condition (except for the silver one), for less than a grand. Happy days.
I run a fleet of cars that I 'rent' out - a fixed monthly payment, and I'll do the maintenance, and you drive the car. These Volvo's will be very popular on this deal. (And they are pretty tough, judging by the other 3 we have out there).

Shed update: The Audi A6 Shed has now surpassed 156,000 miles, but has not been without a couple of niggles since coming out of lockdown and the mileage going up again.

Had noticed a bit of a squeeking coming from the Aux belt for a few months when idling, thought nothing of it, then noticed on full-lock, the power steering was getting a bit grumbly. Got worse and worse, to the point it was becoming undriveable when manoeuvring. Slipper clutch on the alternator, a pulley and a replacement belt. Jobs a good un. I dont spanner myself anymore, so £175 quid later, I'm happy, its a good hour or two plus bits. All good, first bill on the old girl in 9 months and 8,000 miles since I traded the very sheddy Mondeo. When I say 9 months and 8,000 miles, I was shedding anything up to 30k miles before Covid and home working.

Anyway, last Sunday, very early morning, heading back to the Midlands from Cornwall, a nice little 235 miler, A6 doing what it was built to do, heard a clunk, felt like a pothole around Exeter, thought nothing of it. Got home, felt a wobble going down the drive. Bugger, bolt through back tyre, and I mean a bolt. 8mm x 75mm kind of bolt, straight through. How it held pressure I dont know.

No worries, brand new spare in the boot, tyre was down to 3mm anyway. Only £65 for an 18" ditch finder.

Can I get the ***king locking wheel nut off? Can I f***. Lots of swearing, brace goes across drive into gravel sending it everywhere. Tried the other rear wheel to check my stupidity settings were not on max. Double f**k, cant get that one out either. The locking wheel nut is now showing signs of serious metal fatigue and the lugs are rounding. Tried fronts, nuts come out fine. OK, I'm not stupid.

Booked a well known tyres on the drive company, paid £75 to include wheel nut removal. Tues AM, well known company arrive, they have no impact driver, but have a tool. Nope, that wont get either of the rears out. For f**ksake. Which f**king double f**king clown last tightened these up. f**k.

Anyway, I wont go into details, but I got it to my friendly mechanic last night, 6 miles away through the lanes (I dont have home breakdown), who had to weld another bolt to the locking wheelnut to extract it. Impact driver wouldn't do it. Both of them. £50 for an hour and a bits work, plus £6 for some Amazon non-locking 17x27mm wheel nuts.

Spare now on, well known tyres on the drive company returning Friday to replace it and replace the other side which is just below 3mm anyway. My OCD could not deal with different tyres with a massive difference in wear on the same axle.

Its gauling to have to spend £375 in 9 months on a shed. Even though it includes two new rear tyres. MOT up 24th Dec. Can't wait to Christmas!!!! To be fair, I doubt it will pick up an advisory now the tyres are sorted.

After a recent shed trip to the Dales , i had a strange exhaust rattle on startup - supsect it was cornering the shed on a 25% incline and scraping the bottom.

yesterday started and it sounded like a 16 year old corsa driven by a 16 year old boy racer

£11 exhaust clamp later.

sorted.

now its mot is getting with 3 weeks and i still have not found a suitable barge replacement - the thought occurs to me to try and MOT it again and wait out the current Covid19 price bubble on used cars..........

Plenty of sheds out there, just have to be on the pulse. Always on the lookout and ready to go.

This looks canny, although I don't have the need for it (yet), I still think it'd be brilliant for trips to the tip/ikea.

It appears there is a lot of shedding to be done on the Facebook marketplace. Which is annoying as I deleted my social media some time ago. I am consigned to the squalor of eBay and Gumtree

Had to get the oil changed on the Daihatsu Shed as the oil filter was rusting and leaking. My Romanian mechanic said that this was partly due to the close proximity of the filter to the manifold. £40 for a filter and 5 litres of oil was a bargain, especially as the 3 cylinder engine only took 2.3 litres, so there's enough oil left over for another oil change. biggrin

Well as it was nice today I decided to have a pre mot poke around the grotrod.

It's definitely going to fail the test when it goes in.

Big rot hole on the inner sill......right next to the fuel tank.

Im guessing to weld it the tanks going to have to be moved for access.

Nothing else really jumping out so will put it in and see what the quote is.

MicraShed passed it's MOT today with some new brake pads on.
I was shocked considering its done 22K miles since it's last one 18 months ago. hehe
