Seriously considering the 2.5T version of this shape as my next car... the high tax of the T6 put me off tbh!

It’s that or an older shape V70R mk ii. Can’t decide if I prefer the newer shape enough to have to sacrifice on spec at my budget...

Had a T6 a few years ago - great engine, cavernous boot and good flip up seats for kids. And that was the end of the positives for me. Couldn’t wait to get rid after 8 months.

Heavy, dim-witted box, slow steering, swift rather than quick, crap seats, not as big as it looks, rubbish dash, poor quality plastics, and so on.

I tried to like it, but really couldn’t. Better things out there for the money, whatever the price.

You could also pick up a V8 Audi S4 (340bhp) for even less.
V8 S4 is a nicer car, and sounds much better. I'd be twitchy about the cam chains/tensioners on an S4 with 100k + on it though.
To be honest S4 (B6/B7) is just too small with rear seats ridiculously cramped to the point of being unusable. You'd have to go for B8 but these start at around 10k.

I keep half an eye out for these, and they do seem to sell (or at least get advertised) for more than I'd want to pay. Even moon mileage ex plod poverty spec cars are up for £5k. I don't think these P3 cars have the same Volvo-ness to them as the older ones either.

For me the earlier V70R is much more desirable. Still a decent barge though.

Love that Forester! Miss mine, a lot....

The Volvo's pretty cool too, though.

I've got a B7 2.0tq Avant for my daily, and I don't get the rear seats being unusable? It's true there's not much load space, and I think the B8 2.0t maps near to 300 bhp , as long as it doesn't have the chocolate piston rings...

The big buckets in the S/RS versions take up more of the legroom, but it's not exactly a large car.

You couldn't compare it in terms of load space against the V70, for example.

Someone I know had a B7 RS4 with the big seats, not sure many S4's had them. I still don't think the rears were unusable. Not sure the gist of the thread is about how many sideboards you can fit in a car either. I had an 850 estate years ago, tried a V70 afterwards, it didn't feel anywhere near as solid.

I recently sold my 05 V70R AWD and bought an early P3 XC70 for family use and it lasted 12 days... various reasons but to pick up on the 'real Volvo' theory, the P3 is well below oar more so compared to the P2. Switch gear is cheap, seats aren't half as good and granted it was an XC, but it just felt quite uninvolved and vague be it steering, gearbox, brakes. Shame as I like the looks but struggling with the P3 cars and thus one, can't but help feel the dim witted gearbox would kill it. Have since gone back to my old, tired P2 V70 D5 and it just feels so much better to drive and also feels like it'll last twice as long.

Recaros are bigger than normal or S-line seats.
I wanted a S4 badly a few years back so went to look at one. I adjusted the driver's seat to my driving position (I'm around 6ft tall) and I could barely sit the back behind the driver - with my legs spread apart like an eagle. If I put a child seat there the child would probably ride with their knees under their chin.
B8 doesn't have this problem so S4 is back on a could-buy list for me.
