I it looks really good on the road.
It looks much more striking in real life than these "worm's eye" views.
I'd agree, I wasn't aware it had been released & first time I saw one I had to turn round & check what it was.

I honestly do not know why Peugeot bother with this sort of thing - remember the 308R? They will have absolutely no intention of making anything like this. I have never worked for such a small minded, parochial, unambitious company. Buying Vauxhall to eliminate an opponent rather than expand their market, They could set fire to some arses if they had the courage of their convictions (which sees brilliant concepts year after year); lost the premium brand delusions, organised themselves into being able to supply what they design, and changed their attitude from defensive and reactive, to proactive. Unfortunately head office is populated by pedantic, "experience" driven imbeciles with little passion for their product (area reps knowing nothing about products is the norm), and I suspect the dealer network by servile, obsequious twits.

This looks like rather impressive package. I’ve been living with a hybrid in Golf GTE form for the last 70k miles and for me the technology works brilliantly.
Obviously this 508 is a concept/potential halo model but if Peugeot can draw on their ride & handling heritage and bring the hybrid tech to lesser versions this will be an outstanding proposition.
Need to start persuading the fleet manager to get Peugeot on the company car list!

Is the steering wheel resting on one's dick?
Do you turn it by jiggling your balls?

208GTi was better but the big 'grab handles' on the doors made it feel cramped inside even though it's a fairly wide car, with the side of my thigh pressing on it a lot of the time.
I sat in a 208 once and couldn't get comfortable for those enormous handles.

Bloody stupid.

I like pugs but the current interiors don't work for me.

But by going premium, we seen the best Peugeots for a generation - these cars aren't perfect but they have design, personality, offer an alternative to the obvious VAG products. The French's home brand loyalty may have kept them alive but else where they were only bought because of the no hassle package not because they were any good.

I like the idea of this, other than I'd like a manual.

These specs and tech are pretty much a BMW i8 in saloon form. Makes you wonder why BMW didn't do this years ago.

Sadly, I expect the 508 is selling in tiny numbers in the UK. I explored buying one when they started pre-orders for the first 200 cars back last Spring, and those same first edition cars are still available now, even with a 20% discount via a broker.

I don't think you will ever get a manual with a hybrid drivetrain.
Certainly none exist at the moment as far as I know.

I know - the only hybrid manual was the Honda CRZ. Maybe the 992.2 could be the second?

I was expecting a performance version, but not quite that level of performance! Heck with the naysayers, I like Peugeot's interiors. My big worry is more how much it'll weigh.

Also, wonder why the 200bhp 1.6 and not the 265 from the 308 gti?

Emissions? Driveability? Torque capacity of the front gearbox? Headroom for a facelift/future model? Keeping it to a price point?

I'll take an estate - its a poor man's Panamera Sport Toursimo Hybrid, even down to the bright brake calipers and accents.

Those highlighter accents will really pop with a few 'yellow jackets' hanging off the bonnet

I like it, looks quite a muscular shape plus there's some nice sporty/racey looking details. Not really what I expect to see from Peugeot these days.

The best cars for a generation? after the 07s that's hardly an acheivement. Peugeots are like Star Trek films, if they end in an even number, they're good less bad. Personality? What does this even mean in car, unless it's a twee way to explain away dreadful design details. Touch screen OS that is comically unintuitive, ergonomics that are quirky, if you're being hugely magnanimous. Engines that are appallingly rough, and build quality that'd embarrass Chinese cars. And that's without even touching upon the grotesque overpricing. There are some hidden gems - as previously mentioned the 208GTi is great. The 308 GTi is ok, but appallingly expensive to maintain. The RCZ R would have been good if it didn't have a hand-me-down interior from the 307.

No, There is no chance they will build this. The only 508s you will see will be dealer principals coerced into having them as core demo stock.

That's the name of the colour Hi Vis Jacket Yellow - with 400PS they won't be hanging on too long.

Surprised it's not called the Peugeot 508 Gilets Jaunes.

Wow, the "If it isn't German its crap" brigade are out in force today

At least its a little more interesting than a lot of derivative and not as reliable or well made as you'd expect German cars
