I think it's great that Toyota have produced the GR. I'm hoping that other manufacturers will see how much this has raised the profile of the brand, and brought new customers in to the showrooms that they might follow suit. As a kid I remember brands like Vauxhall taking a risk and launching the Lotus Carlton, Ford with the Sierra Cosworth etc. I have my fingers crossed we get some niche models before we go electric

Agreed FastBug - and hopefully the fact that the press is full of positive stories, and the sale figures are good (I think?), then hopefully others will follow suit. I'd quite like to see a modern day Lotus Sunbeam - not sure what it would be!!ETA - readers cars thread started here
chaps.
i'm not sure whether this is a request for opinions or a cry for help. however, original jag xk's, what's the opinion and has anyone run one for any length of time?
just idly browsing local ads, there's a mint looking '99 4.0 auto in silver with black leather, 60k on the clock, advertised for under 4k and i reckon a sale price would be closer to 2.5 [no local market for them].
i'm tempted to go see it as i reckon they're ageing quite nicely and it'd be a nicer place to sit with more oomph than my current commuter [same power but twice the weight]. just wondering whether i'd instantly regret it if i did buy one, what the common maladies are and whether there's any worthwhile performance mods.

I believe - from reading far too much car related stuff over the last few years - these rot really badly from the inside out. This can not be seen until it is game over. If you look at some of the ads for early cars at the bottom of the market there are lots which talk about rust repairs and prevention. So this verifies the rust concerns.i'm not sure whether this is a request for opinions or a cry for help. however, original jag xk's, what's the opinion and has anyone run one for any length of time?

Aside from rust they also have nikasil liners (well came with anyway) though it seems a bit hit 'n miss as to which is effected or had work done (if any) this gives a run down on how to check for them. I'd imagine any that are still running have either had the work done or aren't effected that much. Chain guides/tensioners can be a failure point as well.
I don't know where to put this, and I know the Del Sol will never be as loved as the original CRX, but check out this:
CRX Del Sol
I'll never understand why people pour money into projects like this, but I'm glad they do.

I did fairly well and got £15k for it. I would've got more money back if I'd pulled the engine and box out and sold those separately, long block alone was £6k.
Jesus, 20k hit. Makes me laugh when you see what some of the modified car scene boys spend on their cars and all they're doing is making them less desirable to more people!

I think if you modify a car, or restore one you'll lose money unless you're very lucky or have the mechanical skills, knowledge and time to do it yourself. I knew full well that I would lose money on the car from the very start. But I had years of great fun, met some great people who became good friends, spent time drag racing and driving to shows in France, Belgium and Germany. My friends and I were featured in magazines in the UK, France, America and Japan. It was great! But there comes a point (usually when you get married and have kids) that you get bored of finding the weak link in the chain as you've broken something else on the car
I will say that 200bhp in a sixties Beetle with 145 section front tyres can be very entertaining though

I suppose economically it's no less crazy than buying a new car for £30K and losing £15K on depreciationI will say that 200bhp in a sixties Beetle with 145 section front tyres can be very entertaining though
