Anyone know if there are benefits to the bendy exhausts, like preventing fumes into the boot/cabin? I'm not a fan. Rover SD1s and old Volvos blighted by the same thing.I really like these old Jags but ultimately I prefer 60s Mercs for a comfy classic.

Not sure how optimistic the bhp claim is but not sure we care. Almost 20 years old or wait 2 years then surely firmly into classic status. Such a shame its just black.

I've seen a few 5 series getting the manual gearbox treatment recently but for me it would need to be the M6. If the SMG is that bad that is. But I've never driven one. All I know is the engine is nuts. 20 years ago my boss had a brand new 645i and I did lust over it a teeny bit. I quite like the bangle design.
The engine is key, and the gearbox isn't great, but it's not as bad as it is made out to be, will bimble around and work well when pushing on. All when it is working (mine is back with BMW for the 5th time in 7 months with an unresolved gearbox issue). I don't think a manual box would improve it, a current ZF unit would.
I have driven all manner of warm BMW complimentary cars in the meantime, and the engines despite power and ultimate pace is always a little souless. Although the current, an M5 Competition is a great car and the speed and ease of which it deploys its power is impressive, i still smile less when pushing on without the symphony which accompanies the V10.

my next car will be a F90 M5 comp (I think). Would a replacement exhaust / cats whatever solve the lack of noise?
Yes, but it would never solve the urgency and the manic delivery which every single NA ///M had and is now gone forever. Back in the day when the F10 M5 premiered I got one for a weekend from Sytner Harold Wood - I had an E61 M5 at the time. The new car was a lot quicker than the V10. No doubt about it. And it was as interesting to drive as a washing machine. Yes, at 9/10 it mega, but it just didn’t have that pop and zing that the V10 has. I still think that subjectively, the E60/61 was the best M5 they ever made.
I'm rather infatuated with this at the moment.

Been looking at 340i touring and 440i GCs for a while now and this somehow feels miles better value than the ~£25k plus these seem to be commanding at similar age and mileage.

6 series cockpit much more premium with stitched leather over everything.
But that leather looks like a nightmare to keep clean. Its already grubby looking to my eye.

I had a CLS with a similar colour interior. Baby wipes are good for keeping it looking nice, I know this as interiors that colour and toddlers do not mix well
This and the 5m length are the only things that I'm hesitant about, given I've got a 3 year old daughter and another on the way in August...ATM said:

Can this be recovered - as in not a new cover - as in brought back to good by scrubbing or something. Even the arm rest/s - both - look tarnished.6 series cockpit much more premium with stitched leather over everything.

A decent detailer could more than likely bring that back round. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
