I can't see the value in all honesty.

It is the same price as a very good Elise which will outperform it in every way.

As would an exceptional MR2 MK3 at £5k or a £3k MGF VVC.

If it is for the Porsche pedigree, then a Boxster has more at half the price.

Not hating on the car and you are welcome to your views, I may be missing something.

Your not, IMO. 5 grands worth of lovely 2.5 litre early 986 Boxster is more desirable in every single way.

I'd love a 914, however I do prefer older cars. I think if you're in the market for a 914 you're looking at similar cars from the same era. If you're in the market for a Boxster then you're looking at similar cars from the same era.

And an MGF is an awful offering. I say that as someone that sold them new, even after the facelift (which improved things greatly) in 2000 they were still miles behind an MX5 or MR2

And yet I have an irrational love for them.

Much like the Rover 200 BRM & the MG ZR ZS ZT cars there’s something about them that makes me smile.

Yes of course there are lots of better cars but that’s not always what matters.

The 914 is a bit of a cult car in the US, which may be driving market values as much as anything else.

The MGF wasn't that bad. Sadly, the Japanese contingent have a significant rust issue, though the MR2 less so.

Its from 1973 so that's 51 years old. You just cant compare something 51 years old to something less than half the age. And it's tax exempt, right? I do want something tax exempt so I can feel smug about that. I have 6 vehicles currently but they are not all taxed.

I’ll put my hand up and say that I actually quite like the MGF.

At a couple of £k they make sense as a cheap summer ‘sports car’.

I'm on my own in the disliking MGF then laugh

200 BRM I do have a soft spot for, and the Vi is a decent steer

I mean unless you absolutely want something of that age, I can't see why a more modern car is not a comparable option. Obviously, some people want something from a particular era for nostalgia reasons or maybe to fit in to a certain owners club or certain classic events and that is fair enough.

Look at some of the owner profiles of the MX5 in the classic car mags...very often elderly, ex-Elan owners, who could probably afford an Elan but choose a more modern route.

And as for mentioning the MGF/TF, it would not be my first choice, but for the price they can be picked up for these days, they have a certain appeal.

Yes please.

Saw a 996 homage to one of these and it actually looked pretty decent.
