Just didn’t expect it to be anywhere near £100k.

Maybe it out of touch at how much these depreciate!

I think you'd get one for less.

McLaren's approach hasn't exactly been depreciation friendly.

Not quite like a new Maserati, but not exactly glacier like either. Discounts can be found easily enough, I understand that they force the dealer network to take units which means the dealers need to keep turning them over, and you'd want to find out if your local dealer is one of the few good ones from what I've read

Was mentioned a few pages back but by golly it is a handsome thing so I for one don't mind seeing it again.

It really is.

Any thread views on the E85 Z4? I'm thinking a 3.0si SE might just be the thing for open-top touring, and a bit cheaper and less of a crapshoot than a 987 Boxster. I realise it's not as focused as the Boxster, but perhaps might be easier on the wallet to own.

It's been a long time since I've driven a Z4 but I think they are ageing very well and are a rather appealing package.

Front engined
Rwd
Simple soft top
Daily useable
Handsome looks (imo)

No perhaps about it. Check the roof motor has been sorted (ideally moved to the boot) and avoid RFTs if you can. Ignore auto/SMG. They rust in a few places, such as the rear haunches where the roof seal sits.

The standard seats are a bit flat - if you press on there's not much support. Later Si gets the N52 engine with a bit more poke and are usually higher spec. I had an early 60k miler and it ran great. M54 is pokey enough to be reasonably quick, made good noises and the economy was in the mid 30s. The handling was sound, if primitive. IIRC I paid £3600 for it.

The Z4 forum is good, lots of info and usually some good cars changing hands.

I actually think that they'll be considered a youngtimer classic before too long. Bangle's flame surfacing in full effect. In the right colour, on ellipsoids, I think they're a great looking thing and future values will reflect that. Nearly 20 years old but look way better than the vast majority of other things on the road, including the Boxster - though that would be a closer contest if Porsche had managed to carry the concept's looks over to production.

I loved them when they first came out but there's something about a Seal Grey 987 on lobster claws that really hooks me in. But I'm not sure I could live with the costs of the pork.

A Z4 in some kind of titanium shade, ideally with a splash of dog's knob red in the interior wink would do me very well as an alternative I think.

Finding a 3.0si in SE trim and the right colours might be a bit of a waiting game though. I want to avoid the Sport suspension as well as RFTs.
