So were are you going to charge this magnificent machine?

Or is it yet another EV for big money that you can’t go further than 150 miles from your house? Like a prison ankle bracelet. Oh that’s on a good day at 20 degrees with no wind or rain.

At your house. At your destination. At a service station charge point. Obviously no use to you, because you live in a cardboard box and drive 300 miles every day for a bottle of milk, but people doing average mileage will get two weeks out of a 300 mile range without charging. And of course most people will just plug it in every day to top up it up from 93% charged to 100% charged overnight.

Yep a cardboard box with 2 Tesla outside. wink So charge it at a service station excellent idea with the current infrastructure you will be there a minimum of 2 hours probably 3 which sounds like great progress. Day to day you are right won’t matter but do you not think at this kind of money you might expect to not be limited in were you can go in it. Hands up how many people spen 60k on there second town car??

I have only been using a Tesla for 3.5 years as my only car going all over the UK and Europe so as a complete Luddite what would I know. Until they get a network as good as Tesla they are very limited vehicles.

This is coming from some one who has found there Tesla a complete pain the arse and quite limiting. Wont be having another EV until they are much more developed keeping it for the wife though.

That usage pattern is not normal, though. Obviously the longer the range the larger the set of users who can get by without a good fast charger network, but at 300 miles we must now be into diminishing returns.

Except it won’t do 300 miles.

Technically my Tesla does 350 on a beautiful day I can scrape 250 most of the time 200.

I will be massively surprised if this manages much more than 200. I agree Day to day perfectly good enough. But people do expect to be able to drive some were if they want to.

Lots of people enjoy weekends away etc. It would be tough going in this. I’m not anti EV at all I just get a little frustrated that all these EVs are coming out with no suitable charging network available it makes them redundant for a lot of people.

Most people who can afford these will have more than one car. For a lot of journeys and trips/commutes an EV makes total sense, and for longer trips an ICE car can be used.

I for instance could get a Nissan Leaf and use it for the bulk of my local drives and keep the Lexus for long distance use. I just might as the refinement of electric cars is supremely good. If I was richer I might get an iPace, or this and get a V8 Lexus LC500 for grand touring and Atom. Electric cars have their place and the tech will only get better. But I do agree, as an only car I would struggle with one at present but as a second car I'd love one.

As an only car, that Polestar and occasional use of the current charging network would work for me. I make a fairly regular 250 mile journey, so if it falls as far short of the claimed mileage as Ntiz suggests, I would have to top up en route, but I tend to stop for a coffee anyway. There seems to be nothing available at the moment on what connector and charge rates it supports, but Polestar are saying they will partner with the UK public charging networks.

If it does arrive at 40k for a 400bhp car, that's going to be at least as quick as a Golf R (32k-34k), with likely a lower total cost of ownership for something that looks to be larger and (to me at least) more interesting. scratchchin

If this was an Audi or VW, it would be getting ripped to bits. "No 3 door, no manual, no thanks"

Its rank.

Polestar 1.

You don't really get manual EVs.

I've heard that to win over VAG fans there will be an optional cylinder of nitrogen dioxide which can be sprayed into the faces of bystanders biggrin

Out of curiosity - one of the questions I am trying to get an answer to but have not found it so far - have you been on the Autobahn with it and what is the range if you constantly go say 100 to 250 kph and back again (so basically normal left lane traffic on Autobahns)?

Cheers

Looks great, like the styling, and it undercuts the cheapest I-Pace by a good £10k. I could do with seeing one to gauge the size of the boot. It looks roughly I-Pace sized, but I suspect it's smaller. Lots of Volvo parts on the interior which is a good thing.

I can’t actually remember. Probably in 2017 when I went to Germany.

My post was in jest given the other Volvo thread running

About 1000 out of the last 2300 km during the last 3.5 days

Edit- just realized you were asking about 100, probably more like 1,300km then
