Ahh memories.. I think my RS was around 25 years ago, so positively recently. biggrin

Funny you should mention the Capri, I know the 2.8i was lauded as the better car, but there was something about the 3.0s that I liked more.. Both of those V6's had a very decent soundtrack.. cool
The 3.0 seemed to have more low and mid range grunt, but the 2.8 had more top end. Pity Ford didn't fit injection to the 3.0 engine.

I always preferred the Mk1. I see a Mk 2 now and again when driving past Fosters under the M6 J6 overpass and I always crick my neck having a look.

Many back my friend acquired a Mk1 in a dodgy late night sale in Stoke and he was having a good go at my 205 1.9. It was a fun little thing for about.... 25 minutes.

He understeered into a huge oak tree and wrapped it around it like a lovely little yellow ribbon. Shame.

Was my first ever brand new car in '86. I absolutely loved it.

Same price I paid for mine back in 1988. Great fun little car.

I’m surprised these have all gone. At the end of that model the XR2 accounted for one in five of ALL Fiesta sales. They were pretty good for the time!

I had a 1984 one of these which wasn’t three years old at the time, bonnet rusted right through, engine mounts went, suspension creaked like a 80 year olds bones and those weren’t the worst bits...it ate brake discs I must have changed six sets even brand new Ford ones were warped out the box and it was constantly going out of tune.

This model XR2 was by a long way the worst car I’ve owned...I will never own another Ford, utter piles of pish.

About 15 years ago while a student used to have one of these as did several friends. Many weekends spent fixing them between us, and lots of happy memories. Although certainly not nostalgic enough to pay £6k for one now.

Always liked the XR2's, Mk1 was like a go cart and crossflow was a nicer engine but still liked the Mk2.

Wouldn't mind another one day and the one in the feature looked like good value in todays market but as others have said it has probably been bought by a dealer, expect to see it soon pictured in front of a white painted block wall with a five figure price tag!..

When I was about 9 my parents went out to buy a new sofa in their trusty maroon Lada Riva and came back with a 6 month old silver E reg XR2 from the local Ford dealer. Such a step up being dropped at school in the ford after the lada.

My at the time 16 year old sisters boyfriend had a Renault 5 turbo, I loved both cars and knew I was a petrol head already.

I had a mk1 and a mk2 XR2 in the 90s. They were both dog rough by the time they fell into my hands. Both were great fun though. The Mk1 was really fuel sensitive with its Kent engine, as it used to respond really well to fuel from Jet garages, but only them. You don't get that kind of character from cars anymore.

The Mk2 was a stop gap car for me. I remember the clutch cable snapping on me one day, it was a cheap and easy replacement. I miss the days of seeing car bonnets up most weekends as we did our own repairs and servicing.

Fun times.

This would be the first time in recorded history the words "enthusiastic", "instant throttle response" and "thirst for revs" have ever been used to described a CVH.

Cheap fun, yes. Engineering marvel? Hmmm...

Going out to buy a sofa in a Lada Riva but coming back with an XR2 needs further explanation - I'm not sure dealers took many Ladas in on part-ex against an XR2, probably just the one.

Being down here in Jersey in the ‘80s was like being in the distribution centre for Fiestas. They shipped them in from Spain and passed them through here as hire cars for three months.
If you bought a Fiesta, most were actually Mk2 XRs and it had “Delivery mileage sir” it was probably ex hire in Jersey.
One operator, Falles, ran 1000 cars in their fleet!

I had one as a hire car in Jersey c1987. Loved it despite the speed limits.
