Service interval mess-up
Discussion
Bought a new Jag F-Pace a while back.
Took it in late last year when it got to 16k miles and the service light came on. It was with them overnight and they told me 16k was not the service interval, it was 21k miles. So they had reset the light and done a software update but not the service.
Car is now at 20,800 so I booked a service. Told by the booker that the service interval is 16k miles. Emailed the GM of the dealer with this concern - he responded that he’s checked and the service interval is indeed 16k miles on the model I have.
What a mess.
So now what do I do ?
Left with a car that now hasn’t followed the prescribed service schedule even though I took it to the dealer.
Advice appreciated

I wonder if there is a way of telling when the service light was last reset? Risk is your word vs dealers.
Issue will be your warranty, as I imagine jaguar will try & fob you off going forward for any engine related items... Though they should be fairly rare!
It’s a Landrover engine, most likely will explode the month after the warranty expires. Don’t expect to be keeping it past the end of the lease now. (Actually there’s another problem - am sure the lease will require the service schedule to have been followed. Anyone got suggestions for a lawyer...)Issue will be your warranty, as I imagine jaguar will try & fob you off going forward for any engine related items... Though they should be fairly rare!

My word against the dealers except I have the document record of when I took it in at 16k miles and the work they did - ie. reset service light
If there are any faults or issue with the warranty i would present them with this and tell them that you took the vehicle to be serviced and they said it was not yet due. They can then argue with the manufacturer over who is liable
What did the dealer say when you returned it? Did you contact JLR head office to show them the dealer reset service light, and advised no service required?
Common sense & them being ''the experts'' would make you trust them to advise you as & when a service is due - it is in their interest to sell you this sort of stuff!

It's disappointing when someone gives you the wrong advice, albeit doubtless with no malice intended.
As it stands, the OP is seeking a resolution to a problem that hasn't happened yet.
What if something goes wrong with my car and the warranty is voided?
What if something goes wrong after the warranty period?
What if the leasing company seek recompense?
What if my car is worthless when I come to trade it in?
The OP has obviously documented the problem in his email conversation with the dealer. IF any problems come to light because of the delay in the service then you have something to claim conversation for.
OP, PM me when when you come to sell and I'll do you a letter on headed paper, with a company stamp and everything, certifying that I can only offer you £10000 less than market value because the first service was late. 50/50 split, is that fair?

The dealer conducted the wrong service on my car, it should have been a major and they did a minor. Didn’t notice this on the paperwork until a couple of years later. I had a view that the service schedule is designed for good reason by the engineers but neither the peddler of the expensive servicing nor the motor ombudsman cared. If you had gaps in your service record within warranty and you were making a claim I’d be surprised if they were so indifferent under those circumstances. The car will go pop one day, inevitably, the likelihood of it happening earlier than it might have done should the servicing have been done correctly, impossible to prove I expect. An anal buyer might also pick you up on it and use it as a bargaining chip.
