Imagine a high revving electrically assisted K20A engine replacing the current K20C, bit like Ferrari did with the Ferrari La Ferrari.

Can dream...
More weight and complexity. I think it's fine as is.

Imagine two electric motors taking care of the rear wheels that eliminate the disadvantages of the fwd platform?
Which are?

If 'lightweight' is no longer an option, then e-SHAWD would be the way to go.
It will then be a dull Golf R clone rather than a relatively svelte 1400kg

On a performance car? The fact that whenever you accelerate the weight transfers from the driven wheels.

Once underway (in decent weather) I'm not sure it's a big issue with modern suspension, tyres and a good diff.

The next Type-R could well be the best yet.
Already been done on the current gen model.

Generally, I can’t stand wrong wheel drive but the Type R is the only car I can think of that would tempt me right now to buy with that layout, simply because it’s such a binary love hate relationship everyone has with it despite its clear competence. Such a brilliant car!

I used to think the same till I drive a 10 year old megane R26.

A well set up FWD car can be a really great drivers car on a dry day particularly round a track.

For general British weather I think I’d still err on the side of 4wd through.
