Why just not take the whole car? Surely it would take far less time to bypass security systems on the car than to piss about doing a wheel ,brake and body kit removal with greater risk of being seen.
They cut the battery cable to disable the security then cannibalise the saleable bits. They don't want the car as it can be traced and they can fit far more parts in a van than taking one car as they can hack 2 or 3 cars.

My answer is live venomous snakes in the passenger compartment but it's frowned upon.

Yeah I always dismissed people worried about theft of their cars as unnecessarily paranoid.

But when I sold my R last month I was pretty relieved to have it gone before it was nicked as car thefts have shot through the roof in my neighborhood.

Hopefully they aren't interested in Caterhams??!!

If this is a customer car then is it their insurance that picks up the tab or the dealership as the car was in their care? PS sack owning an R.

Same happened at my sisters VW Dealership in December last year with a 68 Plate VW UP GTI

Attached.

They actually broke the rear window, got into the boot to get the jack etc.

Alarm was sill on and not triggered...

I'm surprised the seats and lights are still in it... seems like a missed opportunity... in for a penny and all that.

I was wondering how they got the locking wheel bolt (I know it can be done without it, but if you're under time constraints..) but of course they would be in the boot and it was probably with the jack.

The Golf R seems to be this eras Escort Cosworth for thefts and cutting parts off - boot spoiler.

And even if they are caught they will walk from the courts.
Its property theft, the Police have no resources to deal with it, everyone wants knife crime sorted, a few car parts is not a priority.

smashed drivers window so using the boot release or crawled through the back seat, but seeing as the spare wheel is under the car they most likely had boot open. Steering wheel gone too, airbag I'd understand but the wheel? Along with the brake discs, calipers, bumper, headlights and wheels, it had to take some time to do, and shows how little the thieves were concerned at being caught.

Problem is, there is always someone ready with cash to buy expensive parts for a fraction of what they would cost, amazing really that people will risk a handling stolen good charge to make their Golf look like a better model, a crime in itself. Some probably goes to repair crashed ones for sale so be vigilant, any sporty car needs looking at carefully and pound to a penny in the hotspots any fast hatch will have a torrid tale in its past however shiny it looks, there is a reason its being sold from a compound on a sketchy trading estate and that isnt because its prime specialist or main dealer stock. Anything thats a "Replica" is likely to be festooned with stolen parts, nobody with a leggy diesel A3 goes into Audi armed with a list of RS/S3 bits to make their car into a full on copy as it would cost, I reckon, conservatively 15 grand. Ok, some legitimate stuff from breakers but most will be full of stolen bits.

If you ever buy stuff that is stolen, then you are part of the problem and shouldn't complain when your stuff goes walkies.

Its amazing how many people in this country are happy to pinch stuff, leave a mountain bike unlocked outside a shop for proof, I was told today that stuff has gone missing from lockers at the gym I go to and its not some dodgy place.

No police within 30mins?

Sorry the Police rely on some sort of bloody alert. If the dealer won't help themselves and have security how else would the police know unless someone happened to walk past and ring it in?

Every day on Facebook I read of people complaining about the Police when thousands of pounds gets stolen from their old garage.

People need to help themselves first

Cutting the spoiler off the Escort happened to one well known car AFAIK.

Half a spoiler is worthless.

I'm just about to take delivery of a Cupra 290 (same engine and very similar performance), hope these don't go the same way - they're very anonymous at the moment.

I'd hazard a guess that this was remote-ish. But, possibly there was car park barriers to prevent removal?

VW garage in stockport is off an industrial estate and hidden away.

BMW garage in stockport for instance is at the bottom of a no-through road and at the bottom of a now-office estate.

Years ago I had an E36 M3 Coupe locked on dead lock and the full leather interior was carefully stolen through the driver's window with no other damage done to the car in the middle of the night..! If they put that much work into a proper job....furious
