As others have said, I'd take the Alfa if I was looking at that size of car. I'm not sure how useable the four seats are in that class though, particularly in the coupe. Next size up has some really nice options...M5, RS6, E63 etc (although again, every time I see an E63, it's blinged up and being driven pretty stupidly).
I’ve got an E63.

It’s grey and an estate car.

It’s quite hard to make something like that look “blinged up”
And the AMG estates are arguably the most Q-like in the sector, definitely the least shouty (until you fire them up wink )

Maybe it’s the just the ones I see in West London then. They’re mainly black, black wheels, always being driven bloody hard/badly so they attract more attention. They do look very good but I tend to think the RS6 and even the new M5 are a bit more subtle.

I still think these are fairly subtle though, I parked next to one and had a good look around it and I thought it had a very nice but subtle look to it. I thought the previous 6.2 V8 model was subtle too and I think that is the idea of them...that is how I see them anyway.

Someone take granddad back to the home.
Wouldn't PCP on an 80k car still be fking expensive?

Depends on your definition of expensive....but likely less than the depreciation on the same (new) car.

The estate is definitely more subtle than the saloon. Both great looking cars but I preferred the real sleepers from the 6.2 litre days. Horses for courses and all that.

Quite, but a lot more palatable than forking out the actuall £80k in one hit.

This is mine, bought in December and was 3 yrs old. Just a ‘basic’ C63 with only 3 options (i believe); met paint, night pack and 19s.
But I love it.

I think it looks tremendous but for 80k it needs to these cars are getting expensive even with a discount.

To be honest it doesn’t need to be 80k IMO, I just had a look on the configurator and a non S C63 Saloon is 66 grand and it basically comes with everything you need standard, especially the facelifts with the updated infotainment and digital dash. The premium plus is 3 grand more which bumps it up to 69 which still isn’t that bad compared to the 79/80+ (if you go mental on carbon fibre, wheels and magno paint).

I say a standard non S will be fine as there’s one in my village that I’ve driven and considered buying (thread about it) and I didn’t for once wonder or think what an S version would be like, it sounded amazing and was very very fast. I’d even prefer one on smaller wheels as the one I drive had the optional 20’s and they were a disaster in the sportiest setting.

The only thing that bothered me is being unable to spec the upgraded sound system by itself without paying for the premium plus package.
Saloon looks really bland not for me, the coupe gets improved rear sub frames/flared rear aches and does look the part, my point stands though I've been through 5 brand new M cars and a new 911 over the last 11 years, when I look at the market today and the prices things are getting very expensive and I don't see that much value, others do and good for them.

Metallic paint is an option on a C class?

It is on the equivalent 3 series and 5 series.

st4 swims in a world populated by cheap s/h Lexii ...

Unfortunately he can't comprehend that some people have cash to buy expensive cars outright and that metallic paint is a cost option on German cars ... wink

You’d think a premium car like Mercedes or bmw would surely give metallic paint as standard - particularly on a 5 series. It’s closer to the top of the range.

Actually I’m not shocked. A friend has a 520d. It’s an appalling car due to its horrid horrid engine but it doesn’t even have full electric adjustment seats never mind memory or even lumbar support. It’s also dull as ditch water and the leathers coarse and rough unlike my Lexus. The seats are heated but not cooled - again Lexus give you heated and cooled seats

He should have bought a nice GS300h. Lexus give you a properly painted and equipped car. German makes try and fleece you.

Complains 520d is as dull as ditch water. Recommends a GS300h.

I think some AMGs and M cars have very high list prices but it seems that big discounts/0% APR deals with reasonable contributions mitigate these.

My E63 was £72k new in 2013, if I’d paid cash I could have had the car for just over £60k. I see a ‘basic’ E63 now has a list price of c. £80k. That doesn’t strike me as that bad, no idea whether it can be discounted. An M5 on the other hand has gone from £73k to around £92k. That seems nuts!

To balance things out, my dad has had a couple of Lexii from new, an IS250 and IS300 and they are nice cars and i’m pretty sure met paint was an option on those. I preferred them to my e90 325 and S4 (except for the engine in the S4). But, they don’t currently make a car that competes with the M4/RS4/C63 so I didn’t consider buying one.

The leather in a base 3/5 series and c/e class is the man made stuff. The Lexus leather is better, however the C63 has nappa leather which is better still imho. There are other features that the C63 has that a Lexus doesn’t but the main one is the below (for me). It’s what gives the car its character.
