You don’t see them that often. You’ll see a lot more Boxsters and Caymans. And almost without fail these are second cars.
Miles off topic I’m going to look at MX5s and the costs of leasing one just for the summer.

Well, I see quite a few. And also Range Rovers, S Class mercs etc. All around the same money. None are second cars that's the point of them.

Err - yeah a 911 is more often than not a second, third or maybe fourth car. I knew a wealthy chap who had a 911 and he was very into cars. Single fella. He also had a CLS. It just wasn’t suitable as a main car. Neither is a Boxster. Well, I see quite a few. And also Range Rovers, S Class mercs etc. All around the same money. You see a lot more range rovers than S classes or 911s - why because they’re usually the main car in a rich persons household. People who are “into cars and/or enjoy driving” might buy 911s but they do not make up the bulk of rich people.

A 911 isn't generally a weekend car, GT versions not included. You see a lot more range rovers than S classes or 911s - why because they’re usually the main car in a rich persons household. This thread is actually pitiful. You don’t see many 911s on the road but plenty of 3 series. This is because 911s are very expensive, only rich people can really afford them new, and there’s not nearly as many rich people in the world.
I suppose to a large degree it depends on your definition of rich. 911s are more expensive than the average car, but 'very expensive'? In the context of some of the cars available I wouldn't say so. You suggest the thread is pitiful; maybe but you do rather add fuel to the fire! This thread is actually pitiful. You don’t see many 911s on the road but plenty of 3 series. Not sure I really agree with this. The whole point of a 911 is that it’s perfectly usable as a main car. I’ve got a 991 C4S and it’s my only car.
If anything, I’d say a modern 911 is too sensible/boring to be a weekend only car. If I had a normal car for during the week, my weekend toy would be an Exige or something more extreme like that.

And rather than waste money on a new car lease, why not finance an early 997 for the summer? You won't lose money on it (important as you aren't 'rich'), and they are in a different league to an MX5 in terms of excitement. I don’t agree. Some might use them day to day but the bulk of them will be second cars. You see this in the classifieds that the bulk of them don’t cover a major milliage - bar the odd exception.
You might not, but the 911 is an everything car. The new Carrera S starts at £93K, a Vogue RR starts at £83K, the SE £90KThese are not unobtainable vehicles. Hence the volumes sold.

I don’t want the hassle of running an old car - an early 997 is a bit of a lottery and probably a bit of a money pit particularly if something needs done on it. But I take your point - there’s room for something more powerful and exciting for a summer car. They never made a 370z drop top did they? st4 said:

Get a a boxster if that is your concern. Not sure the 370z is much cop though not driven it. st4 said:

FWIW, every Boxster/Cayman owner I know uses it as a daily driver/sole car too. You are just out of grip with reality, or still live in 1975/Norwich, Alan.
