On the vxr500's most of the whine is from the belt slipping and screaming for grip, followed by the whine of owners when they see N/A cars beating their power on the dyno with little more than a remap

There is other incessant whining that comes from VXR500 chat.

You could have bought one with the amount you spent on engine rebuilds

I’d rather spend it on engine rebuilds.

The VXR500 is nothing more than a defunct dealer special. There is nothing official or desirable about the badge. A Southampton based dealer slapped a really poor supercharger onto the VXR and then slapped the 500 badge on it. So you are paying for a badge with zero prestige, with no links to HSV or Holden (other than the base car), an old charger that even when new never produced anywhere near the claimed 500bhp as the belts would slip.

If you are after a Monaro (which are fantastic cars) with a supercharger, you can buy a VXR500 but don't pay a premium for it over one of the many other cars that have been correctly supercharged.
The so called VXR500s produced by the Southampton based dealer weren't VXR500s - these were more a case of a rival dealer to the original dealer who developed and sold the VXR500 trying to get in on the act. The original article is wrong too, only 13 original VXR500s were produced and sold, I know because I bought one of them from new with the additional Suspension, Exhaust and Brake upgrades. I sold her on after 3 years of ownership, she is now back in Australia would you believe!
