"You must use your judgement to assess exhaust noise:
during the emissions test for the vehicle
rev the engine to around 2,500rpm or half the maximum engine speed if this is lower on vehicles not subject to an emissions test
Exhaust noise from the vehicle must not be unreasonably above the noise level you'd expect from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.
DEFECT Exhaust noise levels in excess of those permitted
CATEGORY Major"

I’m not questioning your knowledge of the Mot system. I was merely speaking from my experience of hill climbers an stage rally cars me an my father have owned over the years.
The Lotus cortina has a straight thru exhaust never an issue at Mot time. My v10 powered cars can wake the dead they also pass no issues 3 separate stations over past years.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this is why the latest offering from JLR has been toned down a little in terms of noisy exhaust. F-Pace SVR apparently fair bit quieter than the RRSport SVR & F-Type SVR: https://youtu.be/YTPyftXIUNo
