Same power output as the mk2 focus ST. This must fly
When you put it like that, it shows how much technology has moved cars on. The MK2 Focus ST used the 2.5 litre engine (might have been the 2.0) to produce that figure. Now you can get it out of a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder Fiesta!

It was indeed a 2.5 but a stage 1 remap on the MK2 focus produces a reliable 270bhp. Although the standard clutch tends to not last very long after this.

Not really the point of the car surely?
A multi storey car park or bumpy single track road ain't my idea of fun. And I don't have mates that want to hire a circuit and swap paint either.
I'm sure the extra power and torque is nice, but surely 197 BHP in a small car on an English B Road is more than enough to be getting on with.

While the paint swapping and multi-story aren't fun, what's not to like about a bumpy single track road? Proper test of ability.

I really like this and it is I think it is very good how the use of technology in the tuning is 'focused' on the driver,
giving him or her more power and control.

If it is reliable in the long term it would be truly amazing.

Only if the road is closed to traffic coming from the other direction. What he was doing looked stressful tbh. Blind crests and bends all over the place when there could be a tractor or someone else hooning from the other direction.

Well expand it to a bumpy B-road with both lanes then? Plenty of those about.

Not sure how insurance companies will look at this app based upgrade.

I looked into just upgrading the air induction kit and was told that it wouldn't invalidate the warranty. I like the idea but until mountune confirm the state of play regards the warranty I will just wait

While its got the same output (if im nit picking its 222hp/225ps in the mk2 focus st) its got more torque, but as well the engine in the mk2 ST was detuned to 225hp, thats why a remap gets such a massive boost in power on them.

Back on topic Mountune have certainly taken a swing and missed with this, with the fact the warranty isnt kept which such a small hike in power, plus the price. Itll be interesting to see just how few owners go for this in comparison to mp215 on the mk7 fiesta...

There is a potential reason as to why there is no warranty compliance this time round, it has been rumoured for a while that Ford Performance want to start doing these 'packs' in house. Was rumoured when the RS was getting the mountune treatment. So this could be the start of Ford putting their foot down a bit more to pave way for their own .... then again I might be completely wrong... who knows.

I do think its a shame about the warranty as it has always been the main reason so many people goto them, would be understandable if it was a big jump in power but for 25bhp so many people just wont bother

I’m thinking it’s more because Ford aren’t completely confident a 1.5 turbo triple can reliably take the increase......

Didn’t the 1 litre 3 pots have an issue with a pipe that pinged off frying the engine?

As I understand it there are a couple of possible reasons; Ford are moving away from Mountune, and in a similar vein to what has just been said the old 1.6 was massively over engineered so could take more power, hence 300bhp without any internal mods, so 215 wasn't an issue. The new dragon engine isn't as over engineered so their confidence is understandably less.

He was in South Wales, on a road I've cycled (and driven) that goes around Llyn Brianne. Leads to a well known climb called Devil's staircase that's on a National cycle route, it's usually quiet. The climb is brutal, 20% and blind crests, as you say.

Given it's popularity with cyclists, it isn't very safe to drive quickly; if you came over a crest quickly, the car became unweighted and a cyclist was limping uphill the other way (and for me it was @ 3mph while dying) the results don't bear thinking about. I suspect they closed it for a few hours for filming. Could be wrong, of course! The same corner was shot at least a couple of times.

No, a coolant pipe could degrade over time due to them being made from the wrong material hot coolant, and eventually could cause no coolant to go round the engine when the pipe disintegrated while driving. The engine itself seems pretty solid, the 1.6 ecoboost in some of the fiesta st had the same problem. All affected models have been recalled aswell.

There was a good entry for that competition in the "Renting car park for drifting" thread yesterday as well:

I see a lot of ST owners have gone to Revo now they've released their stage 1 map and some are getting 260+ bhp on rolling roads.

Now that must fly. Seeing as mountune figures are a lot more conservative I wonder if their map is a bit more forgiving on the car and it's longevity?
