I'm in the other camp. Much prefer naturally aspirated engines and their power delivery, but wouldn't it be a boring place if we all liked the same thing??

Looks great that, could well be a modern 1M coupe
Beat me to it. I suspect that the really low take manual cars will command quite the price premium in future years....

Problem with new M2 versions is that they seem to help residuals of "basic" M2s rather than lower them. Which is great if you have one but not if you're trying to buy a decent manual one in anything but blue for £30k like me. Anyone selling ?

25...I wish...I'm 46 this year. They are old fashioned engines because they don't meet current legislation and that is a simple fact. I had a V8 Cerbera for 6 years so I have a rough idea what a nice N/A engine feels like thanks.

I've also had the well regarded(apparently from what I'd read/engine awards etc) BMW S54(Z4M)/S65(E92 M3) N/A engines...and I honestly do not understand why all the fuss was made about them(they are old engines from a bygone era for me).

Granted my preference is a gutsy feeling forced induction engine though, but I stand by the fact that I think BMW's N/A engines were over rated and I'm not sad to see the back of them. I embrace the M2 and M4 with open arms and for me that engine is better in every way.
Couldn't agree less. The new breed of M engines are as exotic as the 135i they come from. They sound absolutely dreaful, like some form of fart can with artificial pops, and once you've rode the torque curve a few times, utterly boring. I test drove an M4 CS and was left so disappointed, and that was 100% the engines fault. I don't think forced induction is to blame either, its the fact the engines are nothing special and pulled from the parts bin of lesser models. Look at the RS3, you won't find a shred of that engine in an S3, and its more special in every way than the S55/N54/N55 derivatives

Usually I'd agree regards noise and usually I do prefer the sound of a N/A engine over a Turbo engine. However I didn't like the noise that my Z4M made and I don't like the noise of the E46 M3 either, it is a tinny and wasp like irritating noise for me. I prefer a much deeper tone.

I hear what you're saying around the specialness of the engine(as in based on a standard engine), but I'm happy to forgive it for that because of the extra performance and the much improved power/torque. Plus I just prefer more accessible performance...rather than having to rev the nuts of an engine to get the rewards(appreciate that I'm in a minority with this though).

I'm happier that they've managed to put some decent looking wheels on it.

The usual wheels on the M2C are awful and would honestly give me pause for thought in terms of buying one.
They're '641M' wheels, the current default OEM Winter wheel for the M3, M4 and M2. I suspect the actual CS wheels won't be revealed until the car is launched but hopefully BMW will come up with a decent lightweight wheel for this given the type of car it's supposed to be.

Fair enough, i liked the sound of my S54 powered Z3M and thoroughly enjoy the rasp of the 46. Maybe its nostalgia but it is the definition of BMW sound to me, the ultimate straight six. Don't get me wrong the 46 is not a fast car by todays standards, and feels thoroughly gutless after getting out of a turbo car so i understand your point, but as i get older i enjoy winding a car up more and the experience it gives. Turbo cars throw you into license (or life) losing speeds in a blink of an eye.

I would imagine they will fit the 763M as fitted to the M3/4CS.

That exhaust looks hideous almost as if all brackets broke off, especially when you realise that it doesn't have to be that way had they put some real effort into building a back box that fits the available space. Ultimate money milking machine FFS.
