Ah, we probably don't live a million miles away from each other then, I can pull out my garage and drive NSL all the way to Alston and then onto Hartside, give or take the odd village. Wonderful roads to live around smile

Was at the the launch party up my way last night. My friend and I both had the same thoughts. The rear end looks odd and when the spoiler pops up it looks even worse. The plastic round the exhaust looked cheap. The interior looked bland and felt cheap and plasticy. The seats were lovely and comfy but gripping at the same time. Overall we weren't impressed at all.
This. I was shocked as well after spending all of about 30 seconds in the interior at Geneva recently. Surprised journalists haven't mentioned it as I cannot believe they have not noticed. Yes it is a tech fest inside but special no.

Great story Matt. That looks like the biggest wheel/tyre that it's possible to fit into the generic 911 bodyshape.
Thanks!

I didn’t feel it was cheap. It is plain and simple, and apparently ergonomically a far remove from many years of 911 mess. In use, it will be interesting to see how well ordered and arranged the software is.

The gear nubbin surround is probably the biggest missed opportunity for texture. Most will probably remove the cup holder and use the space as storage.

Most importantly, both steering wheels feel excellent and the seats good too. With the right choice of leather (not black) I think the interior is going to be fine if slightly unremarkable.

I am quite honestly too old for that kind of car- no reflection on the cars at all, but the Porsches seem to transcend age. I love the Ferrari 488 for example, but I do not think its great for a 70 year old. The Porsches are like old shoes though and I still track them so they more or less fit the bill. They do not really stick out so much as they look like all of the other Porsches on earth to the average person.

At some stage I expect I will not do those things and get some kind of autonomous electric sofa with a great sound system and internet browsing,

Not yet thoughsmile
Makes sense. My dad is 70 and had trouble getting in the passenger of his W222 S-class the other day when I picked him up from the airport, so kudos to you sir for still enjoying some very nice Porsches

Best interior I've seen for years. Beautiful.
Maybe it's the poor angle of the photo but the steering wheel does look a bit cheap & plastic though.
Yes spoiler looks very odd when raised.
The cars width would get on my nerves though & would be a deal breaker as it would be used on rural roads a lot.
Kept shiny it would be a magnet for the envious.
Could rarely use the performance.
Nice to own but apart from being a pose & penis substitute what is its point?
There's always one.
What did he bother reading the article?

Never really liked 911's - styling wise they've always played second fiddle to the likes of Aston, Maserati etc. And the interiors have not been in the same league. However, maybe it's because I'm getting older but they are starting to grow on me - perhaps because they are that much more restrained than the aforementioned competition in styling terms (one of the reasons I've just swapped Elise for Chimaera) - Less 'Look at me'. And they've finally sorted the interior - after a few decades!

It’s an age thing wink

Seriously though, I’m 55 and it’s only in the last year or so that I’ve fallen for the iconic shape of the 911. I’ve had various Boxsters and other sports cars but never interested in a 911 .... until now.

I saw the yellow one at Leeds on the morning of the launch and was smitten. I agree that the cabin now looks the business so it’s has to be an age thing!

I’m on the edge of ordering one but not sure I can wait for 6 months so may wait for some early used ones or a stock car in the next month or so.

Good looking car (I quite like the way the exhausts are moulded into the rear bumper), but personally the 911 has always come second fiddle to an Aston, Jag, Nissan, Audi, or a couple of other cars in the market sector.

I've been lucky enough to own a 911 (997.1 C2S) amongst its competitors and while I don't deny it's a good car and completely understand why a lot of folks love the car, personally it's not the one for me. Life would be boring if we all liked the same thing - I'm not saying the 911 is an awful car at all, simply that I prefer other cars instead.
...second fiddle to a Nissan? Really.... I assume you're talking GT-R. I'll admit the 911 isn't the prettiest machine but it's so much better looking than a GT-R....and the latest Aston Vantage (which, in its previous form, would have been my personal preference) seems to have taken an ugly pill...

Try a sorted 991/996/997 and you'll be hooked. It's quick and agile and so usable.

Leeds did have a few lovely 991’s in stock which I had a look at. They’re not selling anything older than 991’s and I’d want the security of an OPC warranty I think.

I’ve had loaner 996’s before when my Boxsters were in for servicing so have some experience of driving them. The 992 just seems to resonate with me in terms of design, inside and out!

I agree!

When you look at the 991 in isolation it’s still a lovely looking car but next to the 992 it definitely looks dated.

I have to say I think the 992 in this article looks absolutely terrific.

When do they start trickling through to dealers ?

Mine hasn’t got one yet.

Now. Many dealers already have them.

This car is ugly. Ugly exterior. Boring unibrow back light. So overdone these days with Bugatti and other supercars. Ugly interior. The info screen on the top now creates this void on the right with passenger dash being so big for no reason. I prefer 991 interior with sloping center console like a Lambo. And then there is that cup holder. I like to rest my arm there so will burn my hand if I put a cup of hot coffee there. You think you pay for something extra by picking higher end models but because their bean counters deem it cheaper to have them all wide bodies, nope, you’re no longer special. An ode to 996 owners when they found they have the same front end as cheap Boxters. Hydraulic steering is better but too expensive so you only get electric. Why are they trying to save money when the price is going up? Greedy bds.

I would hold on to your 997 as would I. I only don’t like the poor gas mileage. I always see 15 mpg on the dash. That’s abysmal but other than that and the loud cabin noise from the tires, a better car than all the models after it. They just don’t make them like that anymore.
