What a bizarre spec and tiny mileage, I wonder what the story behind that is?

I like it!

I don't know why BMW didn't fit split/folding rear seats as standard to the 5. Tight sods.

Back to the CLS for £4k on the last page - out of interest I showed my wife and asked her to guess the price, the answer was £15k.

Ok she's no Quentin Wilson but it goes to show it's a lot of flash for not much cash.

Everyone over guesses the price of my CLS..it's the ultimate flash for no cash.

As I queried a few pages back, CLSs seem to be cheaper than the equivalent E class which boggles my mind.

Very much on my list for the next purchase. List changes daily though laugh

Drivers seat looks a bit used for 59k?
Comfort seats, I believe.

As part of my helpful advice to my wife for usage in the event of my untimely death she is to:
Buy an Alpina biturbo touring NEW, immediately. Demanding pickup from Buchloe, Sytner be damned. Take my ashes.
Never buy a diesel (apols to some here)
With the unfortunate 1-5 purchases that will be necessary after the NEW! Alpina depreciation, Always buy the seats, damnit, as much as the car. Never worry your arse with base, flat, pew like seats. Always the sport or comfort variants, if not, lob in recaros.

All of this seems so complicated to her that she is actually invested in my longevity now.

You must try harder: the NI branch of the thread fly from Norn Iron and get back the same day. Well at least I do. Last time I left Chiswick at 17.30, reached Cairnryan at 3am and was home for 6.30am!
Quite. Luton to Birkenhead for the overnight boat into Belfast and into work with 20 minutes to spare!

Its very difficult to fit a flight to Glasgow and a drive home to London in the same day, especially every time you suggest it to your better half (who is insistent you do not need a car) you get told of some plan that I have forgotten (her parents visiting, her sister visiting, some show we are going to see ... etc.).

No distance is too far, no transport plan too complicated for the dedicated bargist after his quarry.

I am entirely qualified to say this as a childless batchelor

When I picked up the thread 7, it was a 5am start, train up to Edinburgh, then 7 hour drive home, all in the same day.

Look how well that turned out, nothing to worry about.

Sensational colour. Is that BMW Bornite?

Also, is it just me that thinks those old Michelin Primacy's look so good on the car? The old tyre writing is somehow so much more appealing... Right up to the moment you skid off in to a hedge.

I recently collected a car from Cannes. That was a nicely complex trip - foot, train, plane, hotel, bike, taxi. And that was just to get there!

Can't say I made it back within the day, though.

Yorkshire to Cornwall and back for an M5; Chester to Dover for an E34, then soon after Chester to Aberdeen for an E38.

CdG had it right about the sweeties and bonding too.

That looks exceptionally lovely, and while £5500 seems strong both these and good X300s are getting hard to find.

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that the chase/deal/lengthy road trip is often more satisfying than the tedium and expense of ownership once the new car novelty wears off in (in my case) around 48 hours.

That’s a fair statement. I still remember all of mine fondly, worth it for the experience alone.

I had a very enjoyable train journey down to Lyme Regis to pick up the CL. Had to change twice but it was a lovely quiet train with working air conditioning. The trip back was also suitably quiet and it was then I appreciated the 140 refinement.

The E39 collected from Hounslow was nowhere near as pleasant and I wasn't sure if I would make it back without breaking down.
