A quite pleasant 300E that's had some money spent on it

With potential perhaps?.

Super duper. A set of 15-holes away from nigh-on W124 perfection.

And a new exhaust! Lovely though, and if those wheels are genuine worth quite a tidy sum.

I like the wheels in-and-of themselves. But don't think they look right on that car.

Yes, those 17" rims don't work on the saloon or coupe for me, they look too big. They are on one of my s124 and don't look as bad on hte bigger body, though the Sportline spec 8 holes are the perfect 124 wheel for me.

Yes I agree, on the right car (w210 E55 for example, obviously in a different size) they look fantastic.

Topping up the oil on my W202 this morning and a LOT of yellow sludge under the cap.

Oh dear methinks.. but an inspection of coolant levels shows it hasn't used anything. Seems it's just not enjoying the short trips to work. May have to invest in a bicycle.

Quite tempted by this E320 as for once it's not a million miles away from me (still a decent trek right enough). Although I have no need for it and no knowledge of them whatsoever.

What's the consensus on these cars/engines more generally (for future!)?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Cheers for all the advice on this car (and Es in general). I did think it was on the high side but maybe worth a haggle. There's always plenty of these sorts of cars on the market in the UK, but when you live half-way to the arctic most of them are an 800+ mile round trip away so when one pops up within 150 miles it's worth potentially paying a slight premium to save the hassle.

Will focus future searches on 2006+ models thumbup

I totally agree. They just don’t totally suit the “standard” body w124.

Without meaning to tempt fate, my w124 seems to be running fine now with no uneven idle (when I first got it, the idle could be uneven, and there was one incident where it briefly felt like it was running on less than 6 cylinders - I had feared a wire loom issue, even though this has been sorted).

I wonder if it could be a little used car issue that gets sorted with regular use. When I got my 190 2.6, i had a couple of instances of it stalling at junctions. After use this disappeared.

The chap I bought the w124 from had 13 mercs of this era, including 5 w124s. The rear tyres date from 2009, so it has probably not been used much at all recently.

What is your chassis number?

Edit: I think it is A 124 820 06 08. Only used with Automatic Climate Control. Only used with dust filter. I don't think it actually makes any difference whether LHD or RHD. See here for various apparently compatible aftermarket equivalents: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/a124820060... including the Hella 8EW 009 159-711.

Frustrating barge day for me today. Got the call that my 211 was ready for collection. Low coolant warning sign had been on but no sign of leak.

New reservoir/ sensor fitted. Got it serviced and a few other bits done too. 4 figure bill in all but nice to have the old girl back.

On the way home low coolant warning pings up again arrgghhh!! So I have to turn around and take it back, they are going to have another look tomorrow.

I warned the car as I left it that it is very close to being put on death row. Any more funny business and it will be up for scrappage scheme trade in.
My W209 CLK will throw a low coolant warning when the washer bottle is low (both fault/warnings show) could be something to do with that perhaps?

Oh my. Near 500bhp for £6000. If I had the funds I'd be going to see that.

Thank you for that I will mention it to the garage. They are taking another look. They are good guys and have told me that won’t charge me to have a further tinker in view of the amount I have spent with them in recent times! Lol
