This also looks rather fresh and certainly a very efficient way of turning money into noise.

Seems cheap too, although I am suspicious of the lack of history.

A pox be on all your gearboxes! Please tell me why this wouldn't be the perfect daily driver for a city dweller with only onstreet parking like me?

Genuine single digit MPG capability in city traffic there without even trying. Do it, you know it makes sense.

ETA - hard to tell from the poor res photos but the front offside wing colour match to the door is poor. You'd want to go over the bodywork with a fine toothed comb!

I can't believe someone finally bought a unicorn, we must had every other kind of V12 in this thread so far.

Not that I need to, but I'll echo the sentiments for lots of pics, a thread and a barge meet.

We were saying there's only 6 people in the UK insane enough for an E65 with 250k miles, surely a V12 and wool seats has an even smaller audience? Katana on standby.

R320cdi L 2006. 150k miles

You may need a paper bag over your head but for 3 and a half bags you get:
V6 merc
LWB
4WD
6 seats, so you can fold the rear 2 and have space for the kitchen sink too
Just had major service

Oh, you may need dark glasses to avoid the grey on grey.

Actually, I’m not sure why I’ve posted this now. Doh! It just looked liked a lot of motor for reasonable money.

So buy for 5, add another 3 to fix the inevitable basics and actually drive it for a year and you own an 8grand V12 on 300k miles. Brilliant.
That's the attitude you need to take. Residual value of most of the cars we have on here is close to zero, and they can all take an age to shift.
When he said 'brilliant' I got the hunch he meant not 'brilliant' but something more like 'fk me upside down, this is a total stshow, what a grande diccalato with sprinkles I really really am'.

But I could be wrong.
I think my enthusiasm to buy rubbish cars might have blinded me to the very subtle undertone. I maintain that going into it with your eyes wide open is the way to go though; to my mind £8k for two years of V12 uber barging is not that bad compared to £8k for two years of leasing a BMW 320d...
My sense of humour is probably a bit too dry. I meant not brilliant.

Talking of barge meets; where and when are they? I'm not averse to supplying plants with plenty of CO2, but reasonable striking distance of the Essex / Suffolk border is good.

I have a hankering for another twelve banger, but not a Beemer after my last couple, must be XJR quick as a minimum; ideas gents / ladies?

Don't these have two fuel tanks because the economy is so bad? hehe

It'll be out of budget by the time you fix all this lot!

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Nearside Front Steering rack gaiter damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (i))
Offside Front Steering rack gaiter damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Offside Front Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Nearside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Offside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))

Gatesheed is so close I'd be losing money by not buying it.

If that's all that's wrong with it it's probably the best one available!

Get it getted.

In completely unrelated news... wink

The 745i is up to £510 on ebay, and i've been offered £700 cash to take it away. I'm tempted to take that offer as it's from a guy who has actually been to see the car and seems genuine.
Bite his hand off. It would only sell for twice that in full working order, surely?
I managed to get 2250 for a B6 Audi S4 Cab with an indeterminately borked engine a few years ago - the buyers bragged after loading it they'd have it back on the road in a fortnight... a DVLA check reveals it's still not MoT'd.
Yeah, it's a weird phenomenon of ebay. Dead cars often go for more than seems sensible, I can only assume due to wild optimism. My Outback 3.0R was an MOT failure, worth about £1500 fully working and I got £900 for it as spares or repair.

The 745i is up to £530 now, with 2 days left to go. I was expecting something north of £500, but no idea how far north. I wouldn't have been surprised if it reached just under a grand to be honest, as crazy as that seems to any sensible person.
However, if the dude comes back today with the £700 in hand, i'll take it and move on.

You should buy BigBen's S600TT and he's not that far away in Cambs.

Just waved off the guy who bought the best car* I ever had: the silver LS400 I bought 5 years ago, almost entirely based upon the info and recommendations of this thread. Some people say it is lacking in character, but I just think that it doesn't shout about its capabilities and lacks any "look at me" pretensions. Very Japanese. Only annoying bugbear has been the perennial alloy wheel finish (they all do that, sir).

Having waved the guy off, I then got into the Lexus RX400 to drive home and sighed. So much of it is better, but ... (rueful shrug)

So two last photos from back when it first proved its worth. The first on the way to the Splugen Pass on its first big road trip: Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Rear suspension only sagging a little under the weight of Mrs Goat's wine-buying habit. The second photo from the refuel after driving across the lowlands of Europe to Calais.

* it's had tough competition including Sacco-era Mercedes to NSX and R33 GTR. I don't miss any of those really

That is an excellent idea. You should. It laughs at the speed of XJRs and other lesser barges.

I've had the Skuperb in at my mates garage to have the DSG and Haldex service done. He can't do the Haldex as they've sent the wrong filter and a seal is leaking. He's pretty certain the gearbox isn't original scratchchin.
