A v70 wasn't really on my radar (had been thinking about legacies/forester/impreza, caldina turbo, crown turbo airtrek r, anything quick, potentially reliable as a daily and rwd or 4wd, but depending on price I may be interested as a stop gap daily barge chap.
Wish cars that meet my criteria would pop up when I'm buying! Anyway just in thread budget, there was a blue one that kept popping up on my facebook feed but seems to have vanished now:

If it's a mechanical viscous fan it won't have any wires going into it. There will just be the boss of the fan which will look like this:

Success! The fan was forced on by shorting a terminal near the fan switch. It works fine. Has to be the coolant temperature sensor. Being sorted Friday as well as a full coolant flush and replenishment. Thanks to all that helped.

And it’s definitely electromagnetic.

I love this stuff, when my WRX wagon finally dies (141k now) I may ask for your help locating its replacement!

There's something very, very appealing about the "well used" nature of that Bentley.

Imagine how great it'd be, popping out to get the morning papers in that, using it in all weathers etc.

A diesel, for which I apologise, but a slightly bargey diesel at least...

Are these as susceptible to DPF issues when driven short distances?

I'd like one of these with the 4.2 petrol as a dog wagon.
Ah lovely, something I can comment on properly as I own one! DPFs need to be checked with Audi via the VIN as it isn't exactly clear when the 3.0 TDI got them. Mine is one of the very last ones made on an 08 plate and it was never fitted with one, but I have heard of 57 plate ones that have them fitted.

That one has had new front wings, but they are known for rusting there so possibly nothing to worry about. Headlights look crap though.

They are great cars, I really like mine. Calling it a barge is a bit of a stretch if you do town driving on rubbish roads as the S Line suspension doesn't like that. On a decent motorway run though, they are properly good. Very quiet, smooth, and comfy seats. 3.0 TDI has a good bit of poke, is economical for what it is (mid 40s usually), and very smooth. Mine is on 140k and hasn't needed any major work in its life - the inlet manifold flap motor can go and throw an EML, but you get repair kits for them now. Definitely the pick of the bunch out of the Audi diesel engines. Well, unless you get an A8 with a 4.2 biggrin

I thought the colour match on that wing looked odd...

I'd much prefer a 4.2 but I expect the 3.0 TDi can be mapped up to fun levels.

I have heard they can be taken to around 280bhp with no need for supporting modifications and no impact on reliability. Supposedly they also give a broader powerband too, although I haven't found the standard car lacking personally.

Good stuff. I’m also in the market for coolant temp sensor as I think it might have something to do with my cold weather poor starting (35 smackeroonies from MB). Do keep us updated ( your RR thread or otherwise) as to how you get on.

Incidentally, “thread headunit” going into the post tomorrow, I promise.

I will do- RR thread will be updated with any progress with the car.. and thank you, no rush on the head unit! I’m looking forward to seeing if it improves sound quality, regardless it looks better than what I’ve got!

I've just enquired about a potential barge, seller is on eBay (but not listed as a Motor Trader) and yet has several cars for sale.

I asked outright if it was a trade sale, and was told "this is our family car, we've had it two years..." so I followed this up by asking if his name was on the V5, only to be told "Yes, but in the trade section... so it won't add another owner".

The listing offers delivery and p/x, identical to the other few cars he has for sale... this is a walk away moment isn't it...?
Not necessarily.

Just make sure you get it for private sale money, not retail sale money.
Better still, buy it from him in his trader alter-ego, and then hit him with all the faults which materialise within the six month legally assumed existing defect period.

By all means have the head unit, but I would say best “pound for pound” performance gains will be had from new speakers; even mid-range Halfords jobs will give significant improvements over the factory set up, especially at this age. New speakers driven by a better head unit will be better still but the improvement will be more marginal.

New speakers are definitely on the cards, making sure all the oily bits are as they should be first though!

My deposit has been accepted and the advert withdrawn. The e34 is nearly mine!

Seeing that makes me half happy half really sad about the long ago memories of experiencing this 535i. The M30 engine was a good sport.
