**bites back of hand**

I do quite like the idea of these, but I would never say they're "bite the back of your hand" good looking...far from it. They aren't offensive, I just think they're incredibly dreary and dull. But I like the fact they're meant to be reliable, although I've still heard some bad stories even from someone on here. I have been tempted to save for a barge recently but I have an aging family member who won't be driving for too much longer and I may well be getting their car when they stop driving, it's certainly nothing special....it's a 2016 Peugeot 208 but it's not a bad little thing, 6 speed auto, reasonable poke and crazy economy.....If I don't get that then I'll likely buy a barge, but I don't want to buy something beforehand just in case, because it'd be a great little runabout.

Or I could sell it and buy a barge hehe

I actually saw one of those SC430s this morning driving into Belfast. Youngish fella driving it too. I always thought they looked good and quite quirky but in a nice way.
I remember reading the stereo is top notch. Mark Levinson or something?
Yes it is. Check all the speakers are operating as they have a reputation for fragility I was told by a (the?) specialist

Couldn’t agree more, they are dull. They are however rare (ish, but certainly by comparison to the Passat we discussed previously). But, they do also have the Street Fighter 2 connection for me at least (also featured in the Sopranos which I happen to be watching at the moment), so they have some cult/retro appeal. It’s also a 4ltr V8 with presumably electric everything for £1500 which, all things considered, makes it a very tempting proposition. I jest with the “bites back of hand” comment, I merely wanted to convey my approval of the car and Mr.M’s find but do also think they look alright; more so the front end (the side view is just massive, and the rear end dull as ditch water).

Is everything being taken literally in here these days?

Yes, now make sure you wash the back of your hand to stop an infection from the open wound from those bite marks.

Those (AMG-branded) wheels are gash.

It might be badly phrased ('part SH', '2 Main Dealer services', 'last serviced May 19' (same time as the MOT so possibly not much of one if done by an MOT place)), so one could deduce that that might only have had two services in 12 years and 105,000 miles. The 500 is a decent lump I think but that doesn't look like a much-loved example to me.
I had wondered if 2 should have been 12 ...

Why else even mention the "2 Main Dealer services" as a selling point if not?

I love them too but think I’d be better off getting an E class estate due to the dogs, MTBs and I also fancy a boat.

Garage i picked a SLK up form over the weekend lied about the history and manufactured an additional 3 or 4 with Mercedes.

It's going into to Mercedes next week for an overhaul, the car is in good nick and the deciding factor was the premium (newish) tyres all round, at most it has done 30k since its last service (although the trip meter was rest circa 6k ago), so i wouldn't be too bothered on a 1-5 barge as long as the car is in good condition / well looked after.

2 in 105k is probably stretching it though!

Dull in looks of course (more so in pictures than in the flesh), but interesting for what it is, who it took on and how it moved the game on. And if we’re sticking with appearance, surely better proportioned and “surfaced” than the imposing, yet boxy and underwheeled W140 that Mercedes had to delay the launch of, and work so much harder at to better it?

The level of technology and integrity and sheer, bloody, rational thought in an LS400 makes it a strong contender for Best Car of All Time.

It might be boring, but it's a boring spaceship.

Part of the joy I get from car ownership is enjoying it with others; some of that sharing comes from the aesthetic. It’s not the majority factor of ownership, but definitely a part.
"Enjoying it with others".

Do you mean showing off to others

Parked my Rover Vitesse in Hope Street this morning (Liverpool) to have brunch with my wife in the cafe opposite, and during the hour we were there I lost count of the number of people who stopped to have a look, and there were at least four who took photos including one who walked past it and got another ten yards before turning round and coming back for a couple of pictures. It's a huge part of the enjoyment of owning this car; bringing pleasure to others. Almost every day there's a conversation with someone about how their dad had one or "is that the V8, mate?". It's brilliant.
