As it's been on for nearly 6 months we must have had this W126 500SEL which is properly toppy with the 192k and chrome arches at £4.5, but I think it looks fab...

I liked it thought it looked appealing until I got to this picture, which combines the 3 elements which are very wrong:

Who does that, steps back and thinks 'great job'. I've never even seen those ghastly indicator jobbies before.

I've not looked at the history or anything but superficially this looks like a bit of a bargain, the full 5.5l Sport for £4.5k.
Lovely! I had an E350, and that was quick enough. I imagine this would be rapid!

A long time lurker on this thread, I really fancy a GS450H but bought a D5 C30 instead so must be doing something wrong...

Anyway, this keeps taunting me on Faceache marketplace https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/47744709... so thought I'd share

From a GRRC member no less, shocking.

Awful, just awful. More offensive than an ///M badge on a 520d.

Vitesse is having a little holiday on the neighbour's drive as they are having a little holiday themselves.

To me [this] is the quintessential barge. It looks positively regal and donning a sublime colour, too.

In contrast, is an Alfa 156 now a barge, despite being revvy and very sporting? Surely the appropriate look for these is a pair of tight white short legged jeans and a primrose yellow Sergio Tecchini V neck sweater with gold aviators whilst chewing an everlasting cocktail stick (and a thread to suit these sartorial expectations), in contrast to the cords, scruffy polo shirt with raised collar and jacket with harris tweed elbow patches of the barge-iste, emptied wallet in hand (with the exception of Oa's W124 of perpetual preservation and Lexus owners).
Well I have to agree with you and I think there needs to be a seat at the barge table for a bit of 80s British beef in the form of Rover SD1 and Range Rover Classic alongside the Jags and Bentleys.

Cooler than a Barge-penguin's deck shoes.

I wasn't particularly fond of these when they turned up on the roads (Dad had a blue P6) but four or so decades later can totally get them.

Love it, thanks for sharing.
I'm a huge fan of both David Bache and Spen King as industrial designers, having had a Dolly Sprint and a couple of Range Rovers. This is my second Vitesse and is a true muscle car with an uprated 3.9 engine, hotter camshaft, tubular headers and electric fans. It's not fast by today's standards but it's a delight to drive, totally reliable (hasn't broken down in five years) and makes an amazing noise.

HubNut has an interesting video with the SD1 compared against an 827 Vitesse

Corrected that for you smile

Jaffers, please, some more photos of this automotive delight. One of my earliest memories is lying on the back seat (velour brown) with the sun shining in my face, listening to Rod Stewart's 'We are sailing' whilst in Cornwall on holiday. The car was Very Brown.

Speaking of the Merc 126, something seriously amiss in the auction of this not particularly special-looking C126 500 SEC which I was keeping half an eye on:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383114847595
Jumped from £21K, which was already way too high, to more than £36K for a couple of opposing bids in the last few minutes.

That it's a pair of them would seem to rule out a fat-finger bidder, so I can only assume that a couple of Sacco-fanciers both had an extremely well-lubricated bank-holiday lunch, and that auto-recrimination is likely to await the winner when he wakes up with a hangover.

Either I'm totally out of touch with their values or that's a scam. Mismatched bumpers and generally looking a bit scabby.

Something odd there. An average condition C126. There must be some filthy lucre hidden in it

Hi All,

Reluctantly going to sell my W124 frown

Expecting another baby in October and what with the dogs we won't all fit in my wife's Volvo V40 or the Merc so I'm going to buy an estate.

It's been flawless in the 14 months I've owned it and don't want to sell it but I don't have space and would need the money to put towards my next car.

Agh! I’m going to have to remove myself from PH for a while until that’s safely in the hands of its new owner. God I miss that car badly.

TTFN!

I have a similar memory, although mine involves the whole family stood at the side of the A1 on Christmas Eve after my Dad's SD1 lunched it's gearbox!

I know this is under thread budget but picking this up on Wednesday. It has a knocking/rattling on the front left wheel over bumps and rough road. The MOT looks clean, but when you put your foot on the front wheel and push the car rocks. Does this mean control arms?

Come on John, do the right thing. You know that you'll regret not buying it.
