Too expensive, I'm sure. But a rather nice 540 individual. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1164625

You say that but you see these era Mercs being driven all around Africa where presumably the standard of care is not perfect and they seem to function ok. I keep looking at early 80's Mercs and I kind of tell myself it cant be that bad.

They keep going alright but to keep them well they need money spending on them. My 190e 2.0 has cost me £2500 on top of the purchase price in 4 months. Hoping it will give me a break soon, but to be fair a lot of it could have waited.

Yes, I figured as much. The underlying mechanics will probably keep soldiering on, but to keep it mint probably commands some coin.

I really fancy an old SL to waft about in my place in Spain. I've been priced out of the 80s era cars now so will have to be an RL129 but was hoping it will be robust enough to leave a few months at a time and start on the button without needing too much TLC.

Anyone here care to comment on the reliability of the older Touaregs (and X5s for that matter)?

I am considering one as a cheap daily.
We have a 2004 2.5 TDI. Owned for 11 years and showing 175k.

Propshaft centre bearing, £145. Both front window regulators, £100 a side. Air flow meter, £65.

Just changed the clutch this year (manual, reasonably rare).

I’d have another no problem.

Harry Metcalfe used to keep a r129 600SL at the marina in Antibes for just this purpose. There’s a video about it in his YouTube channel. One of the six cylinder cars would be ideal, I reckon.

Agreed. I've pretty much decided I'm saving up for an LS460, but definitely not in that colour scheme! I wouldn't mind the interior, providing the exterior was of a darker hue.

I wouldn't opt for the long wheelbase version though as I believe they have more suspension issues.
Excellent. Have we found anyone with first hand experience yet? And please share your info/ sources.

Where some way off thread yet at near £30k (!) this 2015 LS600h is so fabulously plain Jane, but look at the rear seats...! The early ones are getting close to thread, so it might get to us at some point!

yikes Is it an E65 745i? In fact, I don't think I had to spend that much on that car in such a short space of time!

Sure looks comfy back there.

I'm not sure if they've sorted it but for the LS430 and maybe the LS460 the Mark Evinson sound system has a problem with the sub in the boot, apparently it's approx £1k to sort it....so in many ways it could be a better option to have one without that sound system, or get an alternative sub if it were to fail, I guess.

I think it'll be a while before I can purchase....I've slowly been putting some cash aside into a "new car" account but it only has around £2000 in at the moment....but I've had LOADS of other stuff to save for (I've recently spent £7000 on the house!) but now I can focus a bit more on saving for it, but, in reality, I'd be looking at probably spending more than thread limit (if I get a 460....probably not if I end up with a 430) so I need to save a good £5k or so....so we're looking at a good 12+ months yet unless something else happens!

This happened on my LS430: the cone starts to deteriorate and detach from the body. I cured it with a bit of silicone sealant and all was well. Then again, I attempt to cure pretty much everything in life with a bit of silicone sealant.

The Grand Fromage of Barge. No mention of price beyond 'sensible offer', but I can't imagine the market will be huge. I'm pretty sure I know who among us will like this.

Lovely. Hideous, but lovely. I've always wanted one of these since I had a Matchbox one as a child.
What a beautiful creation and so much Goodfella's, you just know there is a rolled-up body in the boot trunk
I’m sure the Matchbox version was metallic green.

It falls into the thread definition folder surely.

Why not just replace the speakers? Decent speakers and amps aren't expensive, even if you're a brand tart.
