PDC and DSC apparently an issue, but E66 760i at thread max looks unusually fresh with whatever alloys it has, sunroof and light interior.

Good find! I wouldn’t worry about the parking sensors particularly, but I’m cautious about the DSC, that’s not a common failure on this model. It’s likely to be the ABS unit, similar to lots of other BMW of this era, and ecutesting could probably solve for a few hundred £. In day to day use, DSC is quite intrusive if not on a bone-dry road, I usually switch it off & just have DTC enabled. While this is not the sort of car to go wildly sliding around the place, the extra-long wheelbase means it seems to happen in slow motion, so it is easy to catch, even for a ham-fisted idiot like me. It’s a big, heavy car, but it’s still >400 lb-ft at 4krpm, and 450hp at 6000, so even 275 width tyres can struggle.

The wheels are the individual ones, which about 40% of 760’s seem to have (so not all that individual!), and that’s a high-spec car. It’s got the rear a.c. units in the roof, so likely has the refrigerator behind the armrest too. It’s got the later (twin button) i-drive, so most likely has Logic7 sound (very nice) too. Doesn’t have the cooled seats option, but they are comfort seats. The sunroof is actually a bugbear of mine - it’s very detrimental to cabin refinement, much, much noisier even when closed, if the blind is open. Honestly, the car would be nicer without it, and the light (Platinum White alcantara) headlining keeps the cabin feeling bright anyway, so you wouldn’t IMO miss an opening roof anyway.

Subject to validation on the DSC part, that could be a nice buy at that price if you can live with the looks. I’d get a replacement piano-black dash from a scrapper, and that wood (sic) lift the interior no end. So long as you don’t go mad, 24mpg is possible at a steady 75 or so, which ain’t all that bad!

The straight six E39 B10 3.2 and 3.3 were available with either Switch-Tronic or manual gearboxes whereas the B10 V8 and V8S were only available with Switch-Tronic; that said I drive all my Switch-Tronic cars in manual mode and the torque convertor lock-up enables engine braking so they drive like a manual when you need them to be.
I thought the 3.2 was manual only? The 3.3 made the automatic transmission available.
I do sincerely fall upon my sword - you are quite correct.

Not a bad place to smoke around in surely.
All the switchgear has that 'cleaned for the first time' look about it. No doubt, if that mileage is genuine then it seems an absolute steal.
Pressed metal number plates.

That tells you everything you need to know about previous ownership.
I think just 6 services in 16 years tells you more than the number plate smile

It says 6 service stamps....whether that means it's only had 6 services I'm not sure, but sounds like it.

"Jaguar XJ 4.2 V8 XJR 4dr

Full service history, 2 owners.

A much loved, high performance car in excellent condition with a full service history. It was an ex Jaguar management car that I purchased when it was six months old in 2007. I have used it daily ever since and kept it regularly serviced and maintained. My reason for selling is that I've bought a new XJR. Next MOT due 15/12/2019, Full service history, Grey, 2 owners, £5,346"

Forget all the low mileage (driven to the supermarket and back once per week), maintained on a shoestring, dealer stock at £15k +. This one should still have at least half of its reliable life left to enjoy.

Is an XJ's durability measure in a half-life?

Is a half-life the same as a Willoughby? The currency of this place confuses me sometimes.

Not normally a colour scheme I'd like, but that has me thinking reckless thoughts. Massive road tax will put many off.

I hadn't really thought about that, but it's as good a way as any, I suppose.

Didn't someone here make a study of barge durability a few years ago, finding the X350 longer lived than the German trinity and Lexus by some margin?

Step aside, lads, I've got this.

The Willoughby Scale is the universal measure of desirability. The highest possible reading is 1.0 Wby.

Holly Willoughby being, as we all know, the single most desirable object in the universe.

Nothing else except Jenna Coleman has ever scored over 0.7 Willoughbys. Very few cars have ever broached 0.2 Willoughbys.

If you've got a car that hits 0.1 Wby, you should talk to your insurance company, like they tell you to on Antiques Roadshow when Grandad's pants turn out to be made of gold.

Wonderful colour combination (in my opinion), but the photos are photoshopped to within an inch of their lives. Seats look a little tired too, which, for a £50k car, not sure I'd be too happy with.

I agree re the seats - driver's seat has had a larger gentleman in it... and for £50k you'd want some decent HD "natural" photographs. However I never knew these were available in RHD.

Those photos would be great for a brochure but tell you nothing about the car whatsoever. If the seats look tired after all that "work" they must look bloody awful in person!

A later addition to the Willoughby scale, inspired the (Natalie) Sawyer scale, based on similar principles

I defer to the former as the original standard model

I am glad we've cleared-up the currency scale. Alles now klaar.
