Awesome engine - It is like a diet version of the 5.5TT AMG. Sounds awesome, goes well and doesn't seem to break much.https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/mercedes-benz...
Have we had this one yet? In thread budget without a haggle! Having run an LCI version for a year with similar miles with no real issues I think the V12 is a safer and better option than the V8 versions (although my current car uses a similar V8)!
They are great wafty mobile sofas and even SWMBO loved my old one.

^ Yes Phil, it started a debate about the council or otherwise-ness of sunroofs. Odd. Prinny, who has one, suggested it might be OK despite the issues listed. Personally I think it looks great and learnt the alloys are the Individual ones.
We have a threadist with a Superb 3.6 don't we?
£5777 but hey, the estate at 6 bags has been around for ages so I'm sure there's wriggle room.

Whilst we are sharing our communal knowledge about greyish interiors, please can I ask the hive mind two Jaguar related questions?
Firstly, what colour interior trim is this? (I think it looks a bit dull, if it's accurately represented)
And what is the type and finish of these alloys? (I think they look superb, as if they are slightly tinted)
If the quality of the interior trim is anything like that in my dad's F Type R....it won't feel very nice. In his, the carbon fibre "effect" just feels like naff, tacky plastic, really nasty and not a patch on the quality of the M6 it replaced.Firstly, what colour interior trim is this? Still, the engine makes up for it.

ETA the way the seat structure is showing through the drivers seat leather is very disappointing indeed.
Never seen that before on one of these. 30 stone PO?
I think that's a decorative feature on the bolster isn't it?Never seen that before on one of these. 30 stone PO?
Was that some kind of rare option?

Looks like Slate dash, steering wheel and upper doorcards with Ivory seats - the latter being incredibly dirty!Firstly, what colour interior trim is this? (I think it looks a bit dull, if it's accurately represented)

20" Senta alloy wheels, look to have been refurbed in shadow chrome which is a dark barrel with gunmetal faces, I think they work well on this too.
Cheers,
Chris

Does the "normal" 5.5 litre "500" engine go wrong much? The one the 4.7 replaced? I'm very torn between saving for an LS460, S500 or CL500.....or an LS430 if I decide to get something a bit older and cheaper, but I think I'd rather something a bit more modern as well as bargey.....and I do like the W221 S class and love the C216 CL....but I suspect I'd need £3k/year budget for servicing, give or take (probably give )
I'd be on the look out for oil leaks and timing chain rattles on that engine. Not sure how common failures they are (Merc used the engine for all of 5 mins and most stuff it is in is too old for me to see regularly), but the info is out there. Seems like the later the car the better.Personally, I'd go CL500. I mean, look at the things.
I don't think running costs are that bad. There is the potential for some expensive failures, but in the real world I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky to have them happen consistently.

Well you've embarrassed yourself there, as it's an indent of the bolster from the factory. Not the seat structure coming through.Never seen that before on one of these. 30 stone PO?

If there's someone to have consistent bad luck with expensive failures.... It'd be me Personally, I'd go CL500. I mean, look at the things.

Trouble is, the later 4.7 cars are really rather pricey still. Haven't really looked but if I recall they're all well over 2x thread max.
