Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that's the N52 and not the M52. The M52B30 had 231bhp I think. Autotrader is saying that 530i is 258bhp.
M54 was the predecessor to N52. M52 preceded M54, last featured in pre-facelift E39 and E46 plus all E38 728is.

N52 B30 260PS, M54 B30 231PS.

I am getting confused between the M52 and M54.....the M52 replaced the M54, which was replaced by the N52. This 530i has the N52.

I always thought the M54 was a 3.0L brought about during the E39 facelift and the M52 was the 2.8
Correct.

Extra-confusingly, the twin-turbo that appeared as the first 335i featured an N54 engine (as it's basic architecture came from M54 rather than N52), which in turn developed alone into the twin-scroll single turbo N55 which added the Valvetronic from the N52 family (M54s had the older double VANOS). That in turn has been superseded by the B58 unit in the x40i models since 2015/16.

BMW small capacity sixes: M20 12v -> M50 24v -> M52 24v + VANOS/double VANOS for TU -> M54 24v and double VANOS -> N52 24v + Valvetronic -> N53 24v back to double VANOS, plus direct injection.

Correct, although the M54 was available in smaller capacities than a 3.0 as well, although not 2.8, I believe.

And yes...does seem a bit quieter in here than usual.

Annoyingly....my savings for the next barge are taking a small hit as I have to have my outhouse roof partially replaced for £400 frown I also had air conditioning installed in my bedroom last week and I'm having some decorating done as well....so that's £3000 on the house within 1 week! Toyota also about to be picked up by the main dealer in about 20mins to have the airbag replaced today. I bloody hope it's done by the time I finish work tonight!

The G350 is the one loaned to me for 6 weeks earlier this year. It has been offered on extraordinarily favourable terms which I would be churlish to refuse. It is a sub-50k miles 2013 G350 Bluetec, black on black with extra helpings of black. It has the familiar V6 turbodiesel in a low tune mode, about 211bhp. No extras to speak of but they come pretty loaded anyway. Heated rear seats, say no more. It's plenty quick enough for a 2.5 tonne vehicle. It accelerates up to 70 very rapidly and is fine up to about 90. Beyond that takes a bit of effort, but it will cruise at the ton. MPG is horrific, though, I averaged 17.5mph when I ran it in March, albeit that involved towing 4T at speed and also a few very fast motorway runs. The tank holds 96L.

Here it is in action:

So no Bentley or Aston. I'll get the wheels on the G painted silver. I might also fit an earlier, less vulgar, grille. It needs new tyres: I'm thinking of going for a road-biased winter tyre rather than an all terrain tyre. And then I'll run it for a couple of winters.

Oh, and I'm going get some of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Mercedes-Benz-G-Clas...

Looks great! Have a look at the modern all season tyres. Many are 3PMSF marked for winter and are a bit more "with it" for summer road use than a dedicated winter tyre.

e.g. Vredestein Quatrac 5 SUV and Michelin Cross Climate SUV.

Indeed:

M52 2.0 "20i" 150PS became M54 2.2 "20i" 170PS
M52 2.5 "23i" 170PS became M54 2.5 "25i" 192PS
M52 2.8 "28i" 193PS became M54 3.0 "30i" 231PS
