On any journey in the UK, you would struggle to lose an enthusiastically-driven 3.0 TDi, though of course you could leave longer black stripes at the traffic lights.
Hmm, on a normal journey through the UK my RS3 would get there faster than my RS6 or my 488. Most likely a Golf GTI would also keep up with it.However for me, that isn’t really the point!

But then you couldn't do this the following day on the way to Interlaken could you? (Just for the record, not mine, but another Stage 2)But anyway, as posters have already alluded to, that isn't quite the point....

A proper 'enthusiast' wouldn't even drive an Audi 'RS' never mind a mind numbing 3.0TDi.......Hairymonster said:

If the speeds were kept legal then you'd even struggle to "lose" a 1L micra, but if you were a bit naughty then your RS6 could quite happily leave a 40mph village onto an NSL and 7 seconds later be doing 140mph - a 3L TDi might struggle then jp-sr71 said:

Indeed, fair cop etc.But anyway, as posters have already alluded to, that isn't quite the point....
Having driven from Frankfurt to Milan dozens of times, I know that road very well. You'd need to max the speed BEFORE you got to Basel and the Swiss border though. The Swiss take a very dim view of people breaking the speed limit with even other cars honking and flashing if you're being seen 'making progress'. The Swiss motorway south of Basel towards Interlaken and on to the St Gotthard pass/tunnel has some breathtaking views as it snakes alongside the lakes. Of course once south of the Swiss border into Italy and it's every man for himself!

I'm going to go with wind-up merchant rather than the more straightforward dhead. For every imaginary Maserati Quattroporte, Alpina B5, Civic Type R, AMG E63, Audi R8 V10, Focus RS and Megane Trophy 275 in my fictitious garage, one needs to adopt a realistic approach to one's driving needs and budget, so driving 15k a year whilst pumping money into a start-up company, keeping a close watch on fuel costs and running costs, I'm afraid my Skoda Octavia 1.5 SE-L estate needs to suffice.
As much as I would like to replace it with an Alpina B5 Touring, I cannot help but be impressed by its do-it-all character, 45mpg, 150bhp turbo petrol engine and some real shove on offer.

I imagine the blinding headache induced by the road noise from those stupid tyres will be slightly distracting.
650bhp super estate and the first comment is about adverse tyre noise....There is the death of the fun car industry in one sentence....
If I needed 4 doors, I'd certainly consider one of these - perfect for taking the dog, luggage, snowboard etc - the rims are too big on pretty much all modern cars, but that is the current fashion, so not much to be done about it. Can always get a smaller set for winter tyres.
Ultimately the car is a compromise - just as pretty much every other car - not the best steering, weight, engine etc, but there are other cars that are better at those things - RS/M/Alpina/AMG etc still have a place in this world and it is better for it
