What's the best summer car?
Discussion
you know - the cheapest grins per mile at the moment is a 2.0l Renner Megane cc.
The roof system is extremely reliable and rated one of the best hard top convertibles and the car itself is actually a hell of a lot more practical than its predecessor - a Volvo C70.
It is known as the 'hairdresser special' in the house.
I bought it fr about £1200 about 15 months ago. You can have it for £200 as the MOT is up mid April it will need new front brakes, has a slight exhaust blow and the Variable valve timing pulls is playing up so fuel consumption is a bit off. It does, however, have a throttle response unit fitted which drastically improves acceleration and can be turned up for grins or down to save pennies.
It's been my main ride for the last year and I cannot really fault it - apart from it being a renault and having all the faults you would expect from a 15 year old one - interesting electrics, slightly sticky brake pedal sensor (a common fault).
If I had the space I'd keep it 'for the weekend'
but with an old and noisy Jeep Cherokee
and now the S500 Shed of the Week joining the fleet
the Old 1985 Citroen CX and the Mrs's Skoda Superb Estate, it's getting a bit crowded at Dicky Towers.
anyway, you're welcome to art

The best road car I've ever driven is probably the Lotus Elise. The way it drives is just perfect and there's no substitute for lightweight. Running it a close second for me are the V6 Exige and NSX, but they're both coupés, so if you're after fresh air the Elise is my choice.
Here's the one I owned (and still miss!):

Enjoyed my 25mile drive home after work today, finished early so very little traffic
The e9x series of BMWs are a fking liability, frankly, but they handle great, look nice and this is super refined with the 6cyl petrol engine.
It could do with a fruity exhaust though, it's a bit too muted really.
Had an mx5 in the past too, and an MR2 turbo T-bar. The Mazda is good, but cramped and unrefined. The MR2 was fantastic but try finding a good one nowadays, also only 2 seats. The hard top BMW vert is literally 2cars in one. With the roof on you cannot tell it's actually a convertible.
