Where's the prestige & pride in owning the single most generic, unimaginative car choice on the planet?
Lets not pretend that there's any imagination or interest in owning any hot hatch currently on the market. It's a bland fest of enormous hatches, so you might as well have the one with decent residuals and a usable infotainment system. Shame the TCR isn't more of a Clubsport S
The Seat Cupra R is basically that CS with a rear seat and IMO better looking (I turned when I saw it irl). For me it would be between that or a Type R if I was shopping today for a HH (Cupra R's still available in Sweden, underestimated). But since I don't 'like' the prospect of having to walk up to the Type R in public every day (just kidding, just not fond of the looks)...

Surely the Golf has the level of credibility & class that soars above any microscopic differences
isn't it more the fact that every man and his dog has a Golf of some sort and even the R models are quite common (certainly in NW London where I live!) Surely the Golf has the level of credibility & class that soars above any microscopic differences
If you just want a quick car that can do everything, the Golf GTI is one of the best, no doubt about it. It does everything. But an M140i can also do everything, and with the GTI now being the same price and BMW doing much better discounts, the M140i is surely the better pick.
If you want a razor sharp hatch with character, spend half the money and get the old megane, remap it and enjoy.
Have to admit though, these mediocre reviews of the new Megane's are confusing. Any actual owners i've seen talking about them have all been raving about the new car.

That’s what I did.I thought about the TCR on the basis that it’s better looking than the R. I was offered an ok discount, but the M140 was slightly less money and felt like a nicer place inside to me than the Golf (which surprised me because I thought I’d be swayed by the larger interior of the Golf and stuff like the digital dash). I know it’s not totally a fair comparison because the M140 is more powerful.
Out if these two, I’d probably go with the Golf too. Yes it’s a bit dull, but I think it’d do the daily stuff better. I’m just not sold on the looks of the latest RS cars - I was a big fan of thecearlier cars though.

I was also a fan of the earlier RS cars, but they've lost the plot with the styling of these for me. Maybe it looks better in the metal because it just looks a little too comedy for me(like someone has genuinely designed it for a laugh) in pictures. You have to see the Megane in the flesh, it's an absolute bonkers car. A guy down the road had a yellow trophy 275 but last week it had changed colors... he swapped it with a brandnew orange Trophy and I thought it looked amazing. Rang his doorbell and asked about his Meganes and also what his thoughts are about the good old R26.R which I am looking out for now (always had a Renault in the stable but sold my R5AT Coupe in Calberson livery last year)... he had no idea what I was talking about and closed his front door saying he wasn't interested.... ;-)
