Another rare one is the Racing Dynamics K55, based on the 5.4L 850Ci with 400bhp. I seem to recall they also offered a K60 conversion of the 850CSi, but no idea if any were produced

cool

Wonder what ever happened to the one they 'bought' on Top Gear all those years ago with the CL.
Look up the number plate? Basic search should reveal something.

I think chap in BMW magazine bought one of these with his own money, some insane bill for the suspension as it's quite advanced IIRC. Pity as they are lovely, i just couldn't do it with the thought of a big bill looming out there somewhere.

Beautiful car. Way mor edesirable than all the other BMW's of the era. How wrong the reviewers were, as is often the case thankfully.
Ah, but is it more desirable than an E24? My memory of most reviews back then baulked at the size, weight and complexity of the E31 in comparison, even though it wasn’t a direct replacement per se
I also have a 635csi Highline of '89 vintage (last of the line and around the time the 8 was launched), and they are two totally different machines, chalk and cheese.

The 8 was kind of a replacement for the E24, and is way more refined, smoother, better to drive, faster, etc.

The 6 does seem a bit more nimble in comparison, and of course has the wonderful M30 straight six engine which loves to howl.

Also, the 6 has the classic 'shark nose' front end, with that aggressive 80s BMW look. The E31 just looks outlandish in comparison.

I thought the E32 750i/iL was the first BMW to come with stability control, which were launched before the E31?

Sold my second one pictured in 2012. Would love to buy it back but can't find the contact details of the guy I sold it to.

Indeed it was. Just spent the last 30 mins hunting for the contact details of the guy that bought it. Currently shown as SORN. Failed last MOT 18 months ago due to a couple of bald tyres and wiper blade!.

Wonder if the yellow one mentioned is CRA1G’s off here? Can’t be many Dakar Yellow ones about.
wavey mines a 98 840 Sport factory "Dakar individual " one of 32 but they are other standard dakar's around ,had mine a good while now and it's done 67k with FSH.. if anyone has a genuine interest in buying mine I may reluctantly let it go so ph me as we've down sized to an apartment by the river and spending far more time abroad now so space is limited and it's just not getting the enjoyment that it deserves....
If only I had a bit of spare cash hanging around. Good luck Craig. I would think high £20k's!

I've just had a quick look at what's currently advertised and am suprised the way the market has increased...!
I think high £20k's is a little optimistic, i would except less even though mine is a very nice original individual spec car with low mileage and FSH and will be sad to see it go,(or less I change my mind)... i've had an 8 series in my collection since my very first one back in 1995..... beautiful cars...!

Part of me still misses mine. I had an 840Ci Sport individual and was lucky enough to buy at the bottom of the market and sold it three years later. They still stop me in my tracks when I see one.

As much as they were a bit of a lard-arse, they were still competent from a dynamics perspective.

Love these cars. Way back in 1990/1, I was crossing the road in Hampstead and one was sat purring at the lights.
My brother pointed out the car, I noticed the driver, one George Michael, resplendent in his mirrored aviators. He tipped his head, gave us a wave and roared off.

To think you could pick these up for a couple of grand in around 2011, and what they are going for now!

One local to me in the same colour, wheels and sport spec is driven regularly, think it has over 200k miles on it now.

Gets more attention than far more exotic, newer metal. Probably BMW's best ever design imo.

I've always lusted after a 850CSi and the thought of a V12 engine mated to a manual gearbox seems like heaven to me. It is also easily one of the best looking Bmw's ever to my eyes as well.

That looks exactly like my silver one, albeit my one needs paintwork to make it look like that and the wheels need a refurb.
