If you can afford to spend that much on a car, you can normally afford the fuel to put in it. Aldi know most of these will be leased so they make them cheaper for the renters. What other reason can there be to produce such a monstrosity?

Diesel engines in an Audi S model - What!!! frown
Shocking indeed. Where is this going to end? Diesel racecars? 8 overall 24h wins at Le Mans?

Oh wait, lets hope they don't make a S SUV... Or even worse, a S SUV Diesel... SQ-use me?

Get over it biggrin

Aldi might know all about this. Doesn't mean Audi do.

Anyway being silly with typos aside, I know plenty of people who have expensive cars and still bother about their MPG regardless of the fact the cost of fuel is insignificant compared to the depreciation on the car. Original SQ5 as a diesel for example, if that had had the supercharged 3.0 petrol in it I bet it wouldn't have sold as well.

Car industry's going through a lot of changes which many of us find kinda troubling but that you can at least argue are ultimately for the best even disregarding the environmental side of things. NA to turbo, ICE to EV and so on. Replacing a pair of v8 petrol saloons with diesel bloody hybrids, though? I'm going to be very interested to hear someone argue how this is supposed to be in our best interests as enthusiasts!
I'd argue that a gas guzzling petrol engine in a 2 ton badge snob barge from the monkey gasers is pretty much down the pile anyway for car enthusiasts...

Wondering if this is a CO2 hedge for the 95g/km for 2020. Can only think so - add an electric supercharger to offset the tip in response of a diesel yet at the same time get the fuel economy benefit.

Look at the press photos in high resolution.

The quad exhausts aren't even real. They are completely, totally fake. It's just a piece of plastic trim that's totally blocked off.

Go and look at spy shots of these cars testing in camo in the Arctic for proof if you don't believe me. Quad 'exhausts' filled up with ice and snow.

WTF is going on?!

Exactly. Systematic comments about how other people choose to minimise depreciation on a new car just reveal more about the poster than anything else.

Why ? A car enthusiast (whatever that is) can have more than one car, surely.

I can’t afford an S6, I probably won’t be able to afford one of these horrible fast and more economical ones either.

But it’s nice to know if I do ever have one it will be because I’m poor not despite it.

However for all those crying and wailing, how many of you either own the current S6 (that’s have bought not are leasing) and how many of you had an S6 in the top three of your next car shopping list? I’d wager it’s not many, and crying about a manufacturer making a business decision is pretty damned pathetic.

As bad as it is, it's a lot better than the SQ5 in this respect. But I still don't get it.

Shame, I can’t afford one anyway but I’ve always preferred the restrained looks of the S models over the OTT shouttyness of the RS models,

Diesel makes sense, and will be just as fast as the petrol but it’s just all a bit meh.

Don’t see why they can’t offer a petrol too if they just used the engine out the petrol SQ5 or s4
Because the U.K. still comparatively love diesels. Other markets not so much

Sure someone has already posted this, but outside of Europe these are getting the petrol motor out of the RS4, rated at 444bhp. A miserable, but perhaps understandable, offering for Europe then.

Some would say a Saab 95 and Toyota Auris are only useful for kindling and a Monaro is a poor mans Corvette that is driven by someone who talks a lot about ounces smile

Perhaps save the sweeping generalisations for another website?

Quite. They should come clean and stick the exhaust out of the bonnet for all to see all the sooty loveliness like they do on other tractors.

Everything in my stable has its purpose and is by design but I feel flattered that you took the time to look.

The purpose of the S6 is to carry people and stuff from A to B quickly.

I’d say the new one will achieve that.

It is because of the diesel engines that people buy big cars like these.

Apart from PH'ers which seems to live in a different universe to the "normal" man on the street, the demand for big gas guzzling V8 petrol engines in big cars like this is far lower than the more economical diesel equivalent.

You should embrace these vehicles while you can because according to many on here this is the death knell of the diesel engine. In ten years or so time you will be complaining that every car is either fully electric and they haven't got the range you want and you can't charge them even if they did have, or they have a piddling 3 cylinder turbo which self destructs after 50k miles.

Mind you with all cars limited to 50mph max speed limits it won't really matter then.

Sometimes you should be careful what you wish for, enjoy these cars while you can, diesel or not.
