That it still averages something in the high 20mpgs with little effort and can be wound back into conventional DERV duties makes it all the more impressive. We can't think of a more diversely capable oil burner in this segment
The SQ7 engine absolutely destroys this one on economy and performance.G13NVL said:
Are people really that scared to drive a car a couple of inches bigger? Transit vans are all over the place and don’t seem to have issues.
Yes and every time a pair of transits meet on a narrow country road or residential street with parked cars on them around here they have to slow to a crawl if not stop and back up to find a passing place where cars could pass. Plus have you ever tried to park between two transit vans in a normal car park? They work because they're rare. If every vehicle was that wide the roads I drive on would grind to a halt.
I've driven Transit sized vans quite a lot and there's no way I'd want a vehicle anywhere near that wide as a daily driver. In fact I'd be dubious about anything wider than our Skoda. Of course we could cope with a wider vehicle, but neither of us would want to.

Itl only half an inch wider than a c7 rs6 but nobody complains about estates but like to winge about 4x4 sizes
Each to their own but there's no way I'd ever buy a car as wide as a 5-series/A6/etc. either. Last time we were buying a family car we narrowed our shortlist down to an Octavia and a 3-series (E90) and ultimately the main reason for going for the Octavia was that we both felt the 3-series was uncomfortably wide for the roads we drive on.Obviously if you spend most of your time on big wide roads, width isn't an issue, but we don't.
Besides, anything more than a couple of inches wider than the Octavia wouldn't fit in our garage beside the Lotus and I've no wish to keep a car outdoors.
ETA: I think ultimately it comes down to a question of fitness for purpose. Cars like this (and the 5-series/7-series etc) are fabulous for munching up motorway miles and for wide sweeping A-roads, but for tight city streets and single-track country roads they're rather out of their comfort zone.

Fantastic interior, It's a bit big for the UK though, my 7 series is a bit big as well and doesn't fully fit in carpark spaces but once you get used to the size, large long wheel base cars are fabulous, very quiet, 4 square on the road and really give you a sense of well being on long journeys.

Get a bigger garage ! What's the worst that can happen to your Octavia outdoors ?And the worst that would happen is I'd get wet getting into it. No thanks.

Man up !
What buy a big car to reinforce my manhood? I'm not that insecure I'm afraid. You do live a sheltered life though I give you that...no track days and no exposure to the rain. I normally get excited by mixing both of those !
Lol I don't mind getting rained on, a fair amount of the time I get into my car in my nice dry garage then proceed to drive out into the rain with the roof off.
But I see no reason to park outside when I have a nice dry garage so I'll continue to own cars which fit.

All this moaning about its looks... It's still better looking than the Bentley and Rolls Royce offerings amongst others.
Just because the Bentayga and Cullinan are also hideous, doesn't suddenly make this good looking!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
