Yeah they’re pretty standard off the shelf continental rears on an M3 that BM fitted.

It’s not really that much of a coincidence for some putrid foreskin of a scrote to spot a set of rears that fitted their car and swap them over.

My old man took the car in and it was there for a few days in a garage with a ramp and everything needed to swap it.

On the balance of probably someone is more likely to have swapped
Well if you think you have enough evidence to satisfy “On the balance of probably”, start a civil claim against the wrongdoer and you’ll win then.

Yeah I'll take a look at it and look into the garage a little further. Good news is my brother is a barrister so they've done it to the wrong chap

This thread just turned a bit "school holidays".

Can you show us a picture of the tyres?

Unlikely situation.

Have you checked the tyres codes as mentioned earlier? Are the tyres size and make exactly same as the invoice?

Was it taken to reputable professional garage/repairers?

If everything adds up, then a SENSIBLE chat would be the next step. If anybody came to me all guns blazing, with a couple of heavies, whether they had a real issue or not, I wouldn't even entertain the discussion. However, if it was a decent conversation then I would sit and discuss it, and even consider if any of the staff had some interest in the car/tyres.

You are in an uphill position (rightly or wrongly), approach it like an adult, not a mobster.

More likely the same car and the same tyres but for the 2 days your car was in at the garage it was getting thrashed to within an inch if its life with the rears smoking non stop.

Did you check the mileage before you dropped it off?

Have had similar with a couple of my fast cars in the past.

Check for rubber deposits on the bodywork behind the rear wheels.
A mate had this with a Jag. Went in (to a jag dealer....) with nearly new tyres, came out with most of the tread gone and rubber all over the rear of the wheel arches.......

Naturally it's unlikely. It wouldn't be worthy of wasting forum time otherwise.

I don't have any photos as it's back with the old man. I'll pop up to the garage this week for a gentle chat.

Quite. He's got his cousins as the heavy backup, his brother for the legal route. I'm surprised you haven't set your dad on them yet!

Or you could be a man and go down there and make it known that you are not happy. It probably won't solve anything but you'll get a feel for where it will go from here if you persue it.

It's good to hear opinions from here thanks chaps. Helps make a clear plan for how to look into it a little further, much appreciated

Probably ascertain some facts first.

Much more likely someone’s been hooning your car about than switching over tyres , not good either way

Are the rims definitely yours? Only asking because you can usually spot soap residue from freshly swapped tyres.

Unless your wheels were spotless clean, inside & out, which is very unlikely... It is easy enough to tell if someone has changed tyres. Hand marks etc in the grime.

This x100 if you have a tyre invoice, it will have the date on it and no tyres do only 2000miles unless there has been some serious abuse. Once they get hot though you can lose loads of tread very quickly. What car is it?

M3, I think he said? Makes sense given the tyre cost and that he said rears are wider than fronts.

OP, DOT date codes?????

It may not help much, as there's no guarantee that the tyres you paid out for were actually minty fresh,

This, i'd be checking whether anyone at said garage actually had the same car as you, if so then try and check it out covertly

What an unusual theft! We'd be very annoyed if it happened to us, rears on the X5 are a staggering £600 per pair.

Many years ago, I took my wife's Fiat Panda for it's 1000 mile service to the Fiat garage we bought it from. A week or so later,I noticed the spare tyre (under the bonnet) was full of mud and had done about 10,000 miles.

I went ballistic, they had nothing to say, didn't admit to anything...but swapped it for a band new wheel and tyre.....probably mine.

What is the significance of the DOT code in this instance? Unless the OP knows what the DOT code of his 'original' tyres were, we'll still be none the wiser...
