“Simplify, then add lightness”.. Angels weep.

Even though a mild phev might make more sense and we all hope for them to stick with ic engines, it is great to learn that Lotus remains to move forward.
You can't get much simpler than an EV. Weight... well I guess we'll have to wait and see but if it's under two tonnes they'll have done well.
Evo say under a tonne which seems optimistic!

“In a bid to keep the Type 130’s weight below 1000kg, Lotus will apply its lightweight philosophy to the interior. The exposed carbonfibre cockpit will feature fixed carbon seats (the pedal box will be adjustable) and a minimalist design utilising other lightweight materials for the switchgear, such as titanium.”

Unlikely to be under 1000kgs lol. If an EV powered supercar is under 2500kgs then it is considered light the Nio race only is 1735kgs and the Rimac is over 2000kgs. I highly doubt the new Lotus will be under 1000kgs, especially since the Nio isn't even road legal.

Then why run every single one from almost every single manufacturer then?
hehe Autocar have had their crayons out so at least we know what it won’t look like.

The ‘Extreme’, perhaps?

I guess the idea of this is to change the perception of Lotus, so that in the future their cars can be priced directly against Porsche, or even Ferrari and McLaren. At the moment the people who even know it exists balk at the idea of paying six figures, even for GT3 levels of performance.

Personally I’d like to see Lotus making light affordable b-road and trackday cars. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be a viable business model.

Hooray! Another £1m+ hypercar! Thank god, those poor billionaires with questionable taste need more options.

Typical hyper car horsest. Too much of everything - the automotive equivalent of:

All my life, all I ever wanted to do was spend 1 million pounds on an Electric Lotus.

Is that the smell of burnt fingers that I can smell?

I'm more keen to see how this tech will filter down into the rest of the range.

We had the Evora GTE a few years back, but I'm more interested to see how this fits into the Elise replacement and the new Esprit.

Don't they trot out the same image every time Lotus announce a new car?

Great minds Spudlink.
I was thinking Extreme as well, or possibly Exstream, as those electrons will be streaming at a pace.

sounds like Kia-Ora - it's too orangey for crows!
Perhaps we ought to explain that one to the Koreans?

It would be very apt for a car on a different thread here. A car whose name always reminds me of the Monty Python ridiculous cocktails sketch.

Lotus know there is a lot riding on this car as a brand halo.
There are some big markets that don't know anything about Lotus so it's vital this car makes the right impact in order to open up sales of the volume models.

As a consequence, I'm betting this car will be sensational.

Anyone got an order in for one of these?

Sounds a great concept and I hope that they sell well, but we shall see...
